Dirt
ParticipantI rode from the Shirlington Connector north Past National Airport to the 14th street bridge. There are a few branches down and one freaking hell of a head wind, but other than that it wasn’t bad. I cleared off all but one of the branches.

Thanks for the update! I forgot to snap a picture of the bike rack at my office. I get ALL THE SPACES!

I took 4 spaces in the bike room. Had to hang out the rain gear so that it would dry by the time I leave. I’m such a selfish git.

Typo? Because if it is then my laughter was for naught.

ParticipantI spot checked the MVT from my car from Collingwood to Old Town. Lots of standing water and wet leaves. Didn’t see any trees down. Dyke Marsh boardwalk looked okay.

ParticipantFlooding is going to become MORE of a problem over the next day or two. Flood crest isn’t supposed to hit until Wednesday night. That means that areas of the MVT close to the river will likely be flooded tonight and tomorrow. It was close today. I know parts of Oldeee Towneeee are flooded. The Rt1 underpass for the Shirlington Connector will likely be flooded too. The water level was only about 12″ below the trail on the way in this morning.

ParticipantI hate to repost a link 3 times, but I have pictures from the MVT, 4MR/WOD, and Custis trails. Here’s the link: Post-Sandy Ride October 2012
I did not notice any flooding between Key Bridge and Four Mile Run, but expect to see some in the next day or so.

ParticipantClear ride in today from Alexandria. Only two spots were impeded at all. Transitioning from 4-mile run to MVT, and then a tree blocking a half-lane north of gravelly point park. The underpass on 4-mile-run just before the MVT was completely clear of water (though at the hard left up to the MVT, that is where you either want to be on a cross-bike, mtn bike, or you’ll probably want to dismount); and no other signs of flooding.

Thanks!! I was wondering if someone had moved some of those bigger branches or if they have divinely fell just off the trail.
Yah the flooding will be worse tonight, hopefully not until much later as some of us need to make it home and I don’t feel like going up to Potomac Ave or Rt 1.

ParticipantMVT was clear from Old Town to Tulane Drive. Standing water in/near Belle Haven Park but not on trail. River water was moving mighty fast this morning. When all that Sandy rain from the mountains gets here, things will look much different.

ParticipantPotomac has crested at point of rocks and is about there at little falls.

ParticipantThe trail is clear of big debris from Tulane Dr to the Stone Bridge. It is covered, however, with a blanket of wet leaves. I could barely make out the sides of the trail tonight. And they are as slippery as advertised. Biker beware.

ParticipantAnybody know if the MVT from Roosevelt Island to the 14th St Bridge is ok? In particular low parts of the stretch between the Memorial Bridge and 14th St Bridge have been covered by the Potomac in the past as the flow raises from upstream rains or snow melt. I think this happened earlier this year in April but cannot remember, may be have been 2011. It is not a huge inconvenience but something to be aware of.
