ParticipantThanks for the heads up.. Just saw this on CL and was going to cross-post it here. Agreed, looks like a potential safety issue.

ParticipantI’ve noticed something slightly alarming when taking the path to cross the 14th street bridge southwestward from DC: the path widens at the bridge connection with the left half going on to the bridge path and the right half leading to a set of steep stairs down to the routes below the bridge. The angle makes it difficult to notice the path turns into stairs until you get to the first stair, though I’ve never heard of accidents there: http://goo.gl/maps/3AkL

ParticipantRegarding the path and stairs at the Hains Point end of the 14th Street Bridge—I am often more concerned about pedestrians coming up the stairs and into the path when I’m riding into DC. I don’t have a clear line of sight. Thankfully, I rarely see anyone use those stairs. I usually ease off a bit before I get there anyway since the path gets narrow and there’s a U-turn coming up.

Sorry. This week has been pretty crazy. I was fortunate to have time to even stop to photograph. I’ll strive to improve my photo creativity in the future.

ParticipantThis thread made me curious. Where exactly does the Custis Trail end, and the Mt. Vernon Trail begin? It wasn’t entirely clear to me from the Bike Arlington map, and I always assumed (from the posted signage and google maps labels) that the Mt. Vernon Trail began at Lynn St.
1) Is this true? Verifiable?
2) Does the Custis stop at N.Fort Myer Dr, or does it proceed to Lynn? Thanks!

According to the NPS GW Parkway Fellow at the BAC meeting on Monday night, the Mount Vernon Trail ends at the T.R. Island Parking lot.
