Saddlle of Choice

Another thread was talking about saddles and it got me tinking, what is the saddle of choice in the area. Bikes may come and go, but the saddles must stay. I have sold saddle-less bikes, and bought a number of bikes without saddles. Heck I even bought a bike on Craigslist only to have the previous owner call me three days later asking for her saddle back. She said it took her years to find the right saddle. Feeling her personal pain, I quickly obliged. It took me a good bit to find the right saddle. I have about six saddles hanging on my wall from failed experiments. I conceded to the fact that I look good with a toupe, Specialized Toupe that is. I, like many saddle owners have it down to the millimeter. 150mm feels like a bus seat, and the 130mm is like wearing a thong (sorry, too early for that visual), it is the 143mm for my precious seat bones. So, what’s your whiskey?

Ha, yeah it was less than ideal. They adjusted the new saddle a couple of times before I left the shop with it (height, tilt, front/back). They are suggesting I do a “full fit” now, but it costs a lot(!), AND they told me last time that more minute adjustments might be a waste since I don’t even clip in (yet).

I suggested (and they agree), that when I requested this saddle to be tilted forward more, it ended up being too much, and now I’m having to put too much pressure on my hands/arms to keep myself from sliding off the front of the saddle. I would be fine with tilting it back so it’s more level, but then I feel like I’d be back to having the problem of too much pressure on my, um, “soft tissue” area, as they like to call it.

One good note is that this saddle is definitely an improvement in that I can tell I’m actually resting on my sit-bones now instead of fully RESTING on those “soft tissue” areas with the factory saddle! That was no bueno!

I’ve always wanted a saddle that worked a bit like a luxury car seat, with soft-touch angle and distance adjustments available during the ride. Might make the bike a bit heavier, though…
