ParticipantIn my case, so long as OPM operating status is “Open,” I’ll be in the neighborhood anyway, and will be there.
If OPM status is closed, but Bier Barron and the Metro are open and others will be there, I’ll make the trek. (Just not on my Trek… :p)Capital Weather Gang was/is noting that this is a very tricky storm to predict, but are erring on a conservative estimate. I have a feeling this might be a “Game Day Call?”
In any case, if we must reschedule, it might get tricky with impending Spring Break/Holy Week…

ParticipantJust so folks have some idea what we might possibly be dealing with overnight and into tomorrow night. Honestly, I love all of y’all and I do have Pointless and other prizes to award, but if there’s enough snow on the ground and the city is a mess, I will be AWOL. And then have to figure out how to get awardees their swag. But hopefully not … fingers crossed.

ParticipantIf I can’t get there by bike (w/ studded tires), I am likely not going to make it. I’m definitely not driving if it’s a mess. I’ll evaluate the public transportation options.

ParticipantI’m thinking we can call it tomorrow – but between Metro, busses, UBER… bikes, walking… hopefully we can all attend.
And maybe the snow will be a bust?
But yes, game day call – I thinkMarch 20, 2018 at 4:35 pm #1085803accordioneur

But yes, game day call – I thinkI suggested the same to W&W in an email this AM, but haven’t yet received a response – perhaps she’s been out riding all morning.

Alas, none of the above. I’m here at the computer, feeling completely hung-over after the late night on Hains Point (even though I didn’t drink), and I’ve got four different weather-forecast tabs open. I keep checking and hoping for a miracle. I’m not sure what we should do about tomorrow night’s celebration. Back in December, March 21 seemed like the best date by far – based on innumerable phonecalls and emails to try and work around vacations, school schedules, and observance days of all faiths… it seemed like most everyone could make it. Now it may be the day on which almost nobody can make it. Eeek!
I wrote to the substitute-manager at Bier Baron (the manager is on vacation this week) and am waiting to hear back. I’m asking… will Bier Baron stay open in a storm if the city shuts down (assuming we don’t cancel)? And what about a plan B… do they have any openings in the first two weeks of April (after all the religious holidays and school breaks) and if so on which days?
I’ve not yet heard back, but at Bier Baron they don’t really start the work day until about 5 pm so they may not see my email until then. And in the meantime I will keep refreshing these darn weather tabs on my laptop. I know that a lot of folks have worked hard to arrange their schedules around March 21, and some have even flown in for this event, so I’m not eager to re-schedule. I will report back later after consultations with Bier Baron.

Suggestion:
If Bier Baron is open and the weather is really bad, anyone who is badass enough to get there should show up. If there are only 15 of us, we can share stories and some beers and trade Frozemon. I’m sure Bier Baron will be happier with 15 people than zero.
AND we should schedule a second “official” one for the awarding of the prizes. So those who flew in or made schedule changes, etc. can at least make it to one of the final happy hours.

Okay… I’m new to DC, but grew up north of here… where they got a LOT more snow.
Even if the city was closed, the bars were open. But then, that was Canada!

I’ll make it, regardless, as Bier Baron is a short walk from my flat.
But if it moves to a Wednesday in April, it’s a no-go for me, as the Downtown Breakaway ride will be back in full swing and that’s my jam on Wednesday nights until first week of September. So I hope it remains tomorrow night.
And I’m guessing that BB will be open during the storm. Most bars are, and it’s worth remembering that the place is also an active hotel, so some staff will be there regardless.

I’m planning to come unless it’s impassable, and thanks for all your hard work about this. If it needs to be rescheduled I’ll also plan to come to the rescheduled event.
I’m hoping to caravan with people coming from NoVA- but I spoze if it’s better for driving than biking (which seems unlikely) we can carpool….
