From the GCCCT you’d take Jermantown Rd to James Swart, then cut straight through the sidewalk there (the road doesn’t go through but the sidewalk does) to Government Center Pkwy. The Jermantown Rd portion is fairly “confident and fearless” due to volume, speed, and road width–especially at the bridge.
From the parkway you’d simply take Monument Drive to Government Center Pkwy. That intersection can be a bit nasty, and I’ve gotten the ol’ “get off the road” shouts there. It is possible to take sidewalks on that route if desired. (But the pedestrian accommodations are generally terrible, though better than Jermantown; it’s Fairfax.)
From W&OD I’d take Tapawingo Rd, cut through Nottoway Park, then Oleander to Edgelea to Jermantown. (On the way back I’d do Jermantown to Chain Bridge to Courthouse to Plum & the back streets to maximize right turns unless the time of day makes that suicidal.)
