ParticipantI look forward to hearing more about this. In the interim, I confirmed that you can make this one into a longer CX commute. Maybe not quite as uninterrupted as LFP, but I remember thinking the trail down there is not at all bad. And this would be a functional route instead of a detour
. Haven’t mapped it for additional distance, though.

ParticipantThis is pretty much a reverse of my commute. I go up to Vienna then down on the W&OD and custis. It’s a little out of the way but much more realxing than Braddock Road or Annandale. Note, the bike trail along 123 between University Drive and Braddock road is closed for construction. I stick to the east side of campus.

ParticipantThe route google suggests is pretty solid. If you’re looking to cut some miles, this is one of my alternates to get to fairfax (my commute home is from DC to fairfax close to vienna metro) Hopefully the link works…
Note that there are many variations within that general theme, but most involve being on or near some major roads with high speed limits and no bike facilities. I would recommend Lee Highway over Arlington Blvd, but avoiding both as much as possible is good.
Remember, if you’re used to DC, that folks in the suburbs are less comfortable with and accommodating of cyclists. In fact, they’re often downright hostile.

ParticipantYou might try a slight variation, using University instead of Old Lee. Like this:

ParticipantExcellent, sounds like I could be passing lots of fine company heading the other way. Now I just need to get the contract! (Just like a bike commuter to include bike routing in the overall opportunity assessment)
Having spent the last three years dealing with Loudoun traffic a*$hattery, it’ll be fun to try out Fairfax’s version.

It is reasonably sane.
