I would rather take streets than the north side trail on Arlington Blvd.

For the Memorial Bridge approach, I would take Irving to Pershing and right across 50 to south side trail rather than get on the North side trail.
For the TR bridge, I would take Irving, cut over to Highland, cross Clarendon/Wilson and make a right on Key. Left on Veitch and straight across Lee Hwy onto 21st/Scott and make a left on the Custis when returning to Lee Hwy. An alternate, which I would actually take but has more traffic, would be to take Irving to Clarendon, turn right down to Rosslyn and make a left on Lynn to the TR bridge. I prefer taking Lynn across the IoD rather than the Custis sidewalk as it eliminates the right turning car conflict.

I’m not fond of the TR Bridge, but it’s definitely the best route to the Kennedy Center / Watergate area.

Is Irving to Clarendon legal? I usually take Highland through there and avoid that confusing intersection.

The Memorial Bridge option underscores the need for a Route 50 southside trail from Fillmore to Pershing. Who wants to cross 50 twice?

I would try 7th to Walter Reed to 6th to Adams to 2nd to uhle to the trail under 50. Then the trail behind long branch es to Fillmore to Pershing to the trail along 50 – for the TR Bridge take the trail on the north/west side to meade/Lynn then on to the mvt and tr bridge. Hang a left on Virginia (or the sidewalk – it’s west of 23rd so legal) and he’s good to go.

For memorial bridge I’d take the 50 trail on the east side, but such a detour!
