5th is pretty pleasant – I usually take 7th to Indiana to 5th to get the kids from school at P and North Capitol.

To avoid the left, I would just go down First Street then take Maryland Ave to get you over to 3rd St to allow you to avoid the nasty left. The only tricky part would be merging toward going straight by Louisiana Ave.

After many variations of commuting to N. Capitol & L, I’ve found just continuing up 3rd St to E St, right on E, left on 1st is the best/ sanest path. The only real traffic issues can be at the Law Center, but it’s usually pretty minimal and you can just slalom around any silliness. Turning R on H St may be a bit tricky with that traffic or you could go up to I (?) or K and loop around.

Thanks all for the input; I started staying on 3rd and taking E St to N. Capitol. I’ll try going up 1st in the next few days. I tried coming home via, 1st, but found the intersection of 1st, NJ Ave, MA Ave, & G St rather “interesting”. I still need to try coming home via G st to 1st as well.
