Looks like they applied my edits, and it’s now possible to get directions from the Netherlands Carillon to the ANC Metro. I will now see if I can get a trail connection to the on-ramp curve, but these pics show the update:
Your link goes to the Route 27 (Washington Blvd) Trail, not the Route 110 (Jefferson Davis Highway) Trail.
Just move the map up a little, it’s live, not a screen shot. The line color shows it as a trail vs on road bike lane.

I think I figured out what you meant, and that is a small segment of the Route 27 Trail showing as not bicycle-suitable (strange). I just submitted an edit to fill that gap. Once it is accepted, it should start showing as green (bike/ped suitable) instead of brown (only pedestrian suitable).

The detour has not been opened as of this morning. Freezing Saddles Neon Green™ runoff barriers have been laid where the realigned trail crossing would be under Alternative 1. It is fascinating to see this project unfold.
I noticed that as I passed through this morning – it’s all starting to make sense now!

ParticipantOr they could just close it off with no advance warning or provision for alternate route. Had to turn right and go two miles to the next open crossing. Grrrr. 😡

A Puglsey could get around that.

ParticipantAnyone been through the construction zone today? The flashing road sign yesterday said the TRI parking lot would be closed starting today (3/1). I went south to HDCC and need to decide which way to go home.
Thanks.

I second that, although I’ve pretty much decided to just assume it’s a done deal and go the other way, just in case.

Did it myself. The detour is open and puts you on the southernmost mulch trail from near the end of the boardwalk to the TR Island bridge, then through the south parking lot to an asphalt ramp to the regular trail along the north parking lot. The mulch is about as mushy, slow and squirrelly as I expected on my 28mm slicks after a rainstorm. Hopefully the fisher persons who made me wary of the trail along the north parking lot (there’s nothing like a treble hook in your flesh) all like to drive there and won’t be back until everything is done.

ParticipantThe orange barrier webbing was being rolled out along the trail at the north parking lot this morning. Lots of riders who took to the parking lot heading south off the Rosslyn ramp got caught out when there was no where to go. The mulch, while never fun, was manageable on my 26×1.25.

ParticipantI’m looking forward to the next time that the Park Service does work on the GW Parkway. I assume they’ll be building mulch detours for all the cars

5 years ago they might not have even done mulch! Baby steps.
But we’ll keep pushing!

ParticipantMay soon be biking from Arlington (Rosslyn), past the Theodore Roosevelt Island Parking, to points South along the Parkway. If I am reading these posts right, it sounds like there is a mulched trail detour from about the south end of the parking lot to about the beginning of the boardwalk (near where the trail splits to go up across the Roosevelt Bridge or South to Alexandria)—is that right and is that the extent of the significant mods to the bike path? Or are there multiple mulched detour segments? Or is the mulched detour longer or differently sited? Also, is the detour signed “Walk Bike?”

There are multiple segments of mulched trail detour, but the temporary fencing is only directing users to follow the segment at the south end of the parking lot at this time. I did not notice a sign saying “Walk Bike” at the mulch trail, but that does not mean that one is not posted.

ParticipantHere is a sequence starting from the Rosslyn ramp heading downriver. (part 1)

ParticipantPart 2. Note “Walk Bikes” sign. Placed there for your ignorement.
