The proposed CaBi station is shown on the map, too. I highlighted it in color here:

An email from NPS estimated that the project should take 3 months.

Also, according to the Capital Bikeshare report at the last ABAC, that gray box in the bottom right hand corner of the parking lot in the drawing Tim posted is going to be a bikeshare station! (not emptying on to the trail, but on to the parking lot).

Finally, I’m probably going to just avoid TR Island instead of sinking in the mulch. My detour is to take Fort Myer through Rosslyn, then go around the Iwo Jima to the 110 Trail and to the Memorial Bridge. (Route here)

(Side note – the 110 trail has disappeared from Googlemaps bicycling. Does anyone know how to report/fix that?)

Well, it is a “hub for commuting activity” for me. I know people have been working hard to have the NPS view the MVT as more than just a recreational trail. Apparently we aren’t there yet.

    The full press release:

National parks in the national capital region provide exceptional outdoor trail experiences that help people enjoy nature and history, while providing safe and enjoyable opportunities for people to walk, run, bike, commute and have fun with friends and family.

Actually, I saw this and was encouraged that they acknowledge that the trails are used for commuting.

In the lower right corner (on a browser) of Google Maps, you’ll see the Send Feedback link. Yesterday evening, I used that to submit an edit about the Bingham Drive closure in Rock Creek Park and a few hours later it was showing up as closed in the traffic overlay.

The path was auto-deleted on Google Map Maker. I tried to fix it, but the edit was rejected. I reported it to Google and was told that the Route 110 Trail should be designated like any other road that has a parallel sidepath, i.e., with the road marked in green and no separate line for the trail.*

I am trying to get this fixed (have a thread on the Google Map Maker site, and made an edit), but it seems that the best-case scenario will leave the map showing that segment of Marshall Dr in green, segment of Jefferson Davis Highway in green, and a trail running around the on-ramp from Memorial Ave.

    * – I understand that Google wants its maps to be clean and free of extraneous lines, but this policy makes finding safe bicycling routes very unintuitive. For example, roads with parallel trails show the exact same as those with bike lanes which are not the same especially when planning routes for children and those with less confidence.

For what it’s worth, the following is on the current (23 Feb 2017) WTOP website:

Roosevelt Island project will close car access for months

WASHINGTON — Starting next week, visitors won’t be able to drive to Theodore Roosevelt Island for a few months.

The National Park Service said Wednesday that on March 1, they’ll close the parking lot for repaving and start realigning the Mount Vernon Trail, a project that they expect to last until late spring.

Along with realigning the trail, the park service is raising and widening it, as well as putting new curbs and gutters in the parking lot, the park service said in a statement.

Pedestrians will still be able to get to the island, and bicyclists on the Mount Vernon Trail will be able to use a detour to get around the construction, the park service said.

Drivers should park either at Daingerfield Island or Columbia Island, both of which are on the Mount Vernon Trail, or at public parking lots in Rosslyn, which the service said is the closest option.

The other problem with this is that it implies that n-bound people on bikes along 110 would be on the right side (how they would get there is a mystery) and would have to turn left across traffic to access Marshall Drive. All of that is wrong-wrong-wrong, and makes the likelihood that Google directions would route one this way essentially zero (No matter how hard I try, I cannot get Google directions to show this routing, despite it being optimal for some rides).
For instance, to get from the Netherlands Carillon to the Lincoln Memorial, Google suggests this:

Even scarier is its return directions:

I also sent feedback from the lower right link. I wonder if bunches of us did that if it would garner their attention.

Thanks. FWIW, this is what I typed into “send feedback”

    Quote:
Google maps has incorrectly removed the “110 Trail” which is a multi-use trail, heavily used by people biking and walking between Arlington National Cemetery and the Iwo Jima Memorial.

This trail does not simply parallel an existing road. Instead, it roughly exists where I have marked highlighted sections on the screenshot – paralleling N Marshall Drive for some distance, then Rte 110, then the on-ramp from Memorial Ave to 110 S.

By removing this trail from Google Maps, you are doing a disservice to the millions of visitors who visit the National Capital Region annually. Many thousands of people use this trail to walk and bike between these two National Landmarks. Thousands more locals use this trail as a vital connection between Arlington County and Washington DC.

I understand you expect this trail to be designated like any other road that has a parallel sidepath, i.e., with the road marked in green and no separate line for the trail. I believe this treatment is inappropriate for this particular trail, and is more confusing than helpful.

Three months! Well, that’s a bit of a bummer. I suppose it will be worth it in the end, but the odds of surviving afternoon commutes through Georgetown are in inverse proportion to the time actually spent riding there.

Interesting on regular Google maps that is still shown as a trail.

But, that’s not even true. E.g., https://www.google.com/maps/@38.8765023,-77.3832691,16.25z/data=!5m1!1e3 There are both route 50 and FFX county parkway, with side paths quite clearly separate. And then there’s a green line down the middle of 50 on the other side because they arbitrarily decided that was different. I think mostly they just aren’t that concerned about the needs of cyclists planning routes.

It shows as missing when I look at Google maps. Can you post a screenshot of how it’s displaying for you?

Looks like they applied my edits, and it’s now possible to get directions from the Netherlands Carillon to the ANC Metro. I will now see if I can get a trail connection to the on-ramp curve, but these pics show the update:

Your link goes to the Route 27 (Washington Blvd) Trail, not the Route 110 (Jefferson Davis Highway) Trail.
