Sorry to hear about your crash! Well, I have experience with front rollerbrakes. They have a disconnect that allows the cable to disengage from the brake on the hub. This is so you can remove the wheel from the bike. It’s a piece of hardware attached to the cable that hooks into an arm on the brake. If that wasn’t properly seated and came loose, it could get tangled in the wheel.

I think it’s like the black arm with the hex nut showing under the axle on the left side of this (random) pic.

Has anyone heard of a cable coming out of a rear Shimano rollerbrake while riding (and getting caught in a wheel, causing a crash)? We’re trying to solve the mystery of a spill that happened yesterday, luckily at low-enough speed and close to home.

(Everyone is fine, but it’s no fun to see your hubs bike off with two kids, then have one of those kids show up at the front door, alone, screaming because of a tiny cut and not answering the question “is daddy ok”.)

Don’t leave us with a cliff hanger like this…. Is daddy ok?

Yes, yes, everyone is fine! Thanks for the concern. It was just cold and my 5 YO preferred to run home and get his favorite bandaid instead of hanging in the cold with Dad and his brother.

BTW, shout out to Conte’s in Ballston, for getting everything fixed up and getting them back on the bike today. And yes, they all got back on this morning (I assume they got to school without incident).
