Another memory is that he was pretty insistent about being called Robert, rather than Bob. So I just called him Mr. Cox.

Robert’s Forum name was vern, and that’s what some of us called him. He was our teammate on the Bipolar Beams Team 6 in my first Freezing Saddles, 2015. Ian F was our captain and vern and I were co-cheerleaders. It was an absolute blast. Vern was so kind and thoughtful … and supremely funny. The news is really upsetting.

Thank you for sharing this awful and sad news, Steve.

He worked right by the Cosi where Crystal City Coffee Club meets. He would wave at us as he rode in to work, as recently as earlier this summer–numerous times. I figured at some point when he was running early or had the inclination, he would stop and chat for a few minutes.
I also had the pleasure of riding along with Robert on the way there several times in 2017-2018, since our routes overlapped on coffee club mornings.
    So sad.
    Peace.

So tragic. I haven’t seen him in a very long time, but he will be missed. Such a shame to lose another of the good guys.

    Sorry Robert.

I met up with Robert on many a morning commute and coffee clubs and remember with fondess his skeleton rib jersey and dry wit along the way. Such tragic news. I will also miss his recent pre-4am leg 1 of his commute rides to the train.

I read his wife’s post on Strava yesterday afternoon. I am still struggling with it. I feel so awful for his wife and teenage son. Nothing but good memories of the time I was able to spend with him.

May I ask where to find the post on Strava? Thanks.

I’m planning on attending the gathering at his house on Saturday. Please PM me if you’d like to coordinate.
