So, I can probably stop worrying about my rims when I jump the curb at Roosevelt Island.
Hey, Jason, that must have been you I saw doing this about a year ago! You’ve been my hero ever since. I’m still working on getting up enough nerve to bunny hop it myself. I guess I’m more a chicken than a bunny.
Dave
I think for the first one of these he did he released a “behind the scenes” thing where he said he only had 1 flat during filming and no issues with rims or frame. Pretty amazing.

Yeah, in the behind the scenes video he addressed people who claimed he must have gone through multiple bikes by saying he used the same bike and wheels for the entire video and still had it, and that he only had one flat. Pretty amazing. The thing that surprises me most is that he’s able to pull those trials moves with road brakes (many of them require very strong braking force; trials guys often run hydraulic rim brakes and grind the rims to make them rough so the brakes grip harder).
Yes, Ashton confirms in the video description (on the YouTube page) that the bike costs 15,000 British pounds, about $24,600. Colnago is one of the sponsors, so the riders probably didn’t have to pay for that bike, or worry about any damage to the bike.
(I assume they have good health insurance. Britain has the NHS but I don’t know the specifics of the program.)
