ParticipantBased upon what I’m seeing in Strava, Garmin GPS units seem to be having a harder time than the riders

ParticipantI admit, I’d still get out there, but not for much more than the minimum miles needed to get from point A to B and back. I’m having freezing fingers issues.

two years ago i lost a ride because my garmin 500 froze and died and i didn’t notice. it wasn’t super fun to have to go back outside and sleaze to make up for it.
since i switched to a watch i haven’t had that problem anymore.

One suggestion for this: On these cold days, put the Garmin inside your clothing. For women, in the bra works, although I will not speculate on where Steve O might be putting his. It can still register GPS there, but you’re less likely to have it freeze and refuse to register miles.

Only if you have a case for your phone, ladies. Otherwise, the sweat mess it up in other no-so-fun ways…

We were talking about a Garmin (which is pretty much impervious to moisture), not a phone. Although in this weather, excessive sweating doesn’t tend to be a big issue, anyway.

Yes, but a Garmin is never a phone.

ParticipantBatteries don’t hold a charge well in the cold. I find that I have to charge my Wahoo, di2, and phone more frequently. I was most surprised about the di2, it should last for months but after 35 miles of sub freezing I was getting a flashing light.
