New Event: Hains Point Loop(s) and Free Performance of the Shanghai Quartet at the Freer Sackler Gallery – Thursday March 7th
https://www.freersackler.si.edu/events-overview/all-events/#/?i=1
When: March 7th, 2019. Meet at 6pm in front of the Hirshhorn (Jefferson Ave side). We will do loops around Hains Point and then ETA in front of the Freer Sackler for 7pm.
Performance starts at 7:30pm.
Cost: If you want to pick your seats in advance, cost is $6 at the link above. Or you can just show up for free.
There are bike racks in front of the museum and I would recommend a sturdy bike lock.
Let me know if you’re interested and if you want to meet up for just the ride, just the show, or both.
Jo and I will join you at the concert, if not the ride also. Got us a pair of tix (P5 and P6) just to be safe

ParticipantUPDATED Start Time: Strava Art Group Ride–Leviathan!
******************************************
ATTENTION! The weather forecast has flipped and now there’s chance of rain in morning followed by clearing, so I’m pushing everything back by 3 hours. This should also work better for the new Daylight Savings shift.
******************************************UPDATED:
All invited to join for a fun Strava art ride in Arlington on Sunday, Mar 10th. Meet 12:15 PM at Best Buns in Shirlington, for coffee/snack, if desired before the ride. Wheels rolling from Shirlington at 1:00 PM. Artwork starts and ends at at the intersection of W&OD and Carlin Springs Rd. You can meet us there at 1:20 PM and complete the 12-mile art ride in about an hour’s time. No drop; average speed 9-12 mph. There are a few techniques I can show you about doing Strava Art, we will have to cross a couple of parks, a staircase, and a sidewalk for a stretch along a one-way street. Whether you are an experienced Strava artist or a newbie, it will be fun for all.UPDATED SUMMARY

ParticipantTUESDAY March 12: Play hookey! Take a sick day!
Join me Tuesday, March 12 for one of my favorite rides: Hains Point to Lake Artemesia, with a side visit to the Shortcake Bakery in Hyattsville.
We will meet at the HP Golf Course Parking lot (972 Ohio Drive, SW) at 10:15 for 10:30 wheels out. From there we will cross the river, pass the Wharf, Yards Park, The Navy Yard, and head over the 11th St Bridge to the Anacostia River Trail, which we will follow up to Lake Artemesia, about 17 miles of relatively flat well maintained trails. The trail goes through beautfiul woods and fields, and by the Anacostia River.
We will stop at Bladensburg Waterfront Park for a bathroom break.
We will take a spin around Lake Artemesia (stopping for a bathroom break and photo op).
On the way back we will stop by Shortcake Bakery in Hyattsville, a very short detour off the trail, for treats and drinks.
We will cross the river on the way back, taking the trail by the wonderful scenic Kingman Island, for a brief stop and photo op.
36 miles RT.
Social Pace
No drop.
Please bring water, snacks, and a lock.

ParticipantFast Friendly Guy,
Thank you for leading a fun ride. Someone on the ride said, who knew there was a Leviathan in Arlington?
The cross country section through very wet grass and fields was fun.March 11, 2019 at 2:29 am #1096632drevil

With apologies for the short notice, “the gubment” decided I need to leave for Brazil ASAP. Please join me for a drinks and “see-you-laters” tomorrow evening!
What: TTFN Happy Hour for Kitty and Kali
Where: Quarterdeck – 1200 Fort Myer Dr, Arlington, VA 22209 (Basically ride to the Marine Corps Memorial/Iwo Jima and you’re almost there.)
When: Tuesday, March 12, 5ish-7ish
Why:- After an 11-month holding-pattern, Kitty is taking off!
- She’s trying to execute an international move in double time and needs a hug and a mug. Q.Q)
- Despite her better efforts to NOT set roots, you all integrated her into a community of friends and now she’s sad to go.
- BAFS Points (Miles, beer… are hushpuppies dumplings or doggies?)
How: By any means necessary.
I hope to see some of you there! Swing by on your way home or make the trip and enjoy the weather!
