Pics from today’s coffee meet-up at Caffe Amouri. Various folks from different teams (plus my friend, Bobke, who isn’t playing FS). Three Team 21 riders (me, Taylor, and Bill) so I don’t think we met the quota for it being an official team event so no infiltrator points. Beautiful day for a ride!

Don’t worry; it’s a short hill. Only 0.2 miles according to Google, or 0.1 miles for the actual Strava segment.

Estimating arrival times for these rides is always a crapshoot, but I’m guessing we’ll be at the start of the CCT around 9:35-9:45, and at Quartermaine around 10:10-10:20. If you’d like, PM me your cell phone number and I’ll text you with an update along the way.

One thing I’ve started doing for group rides where we’re meeting people along the route is posting the URL for my beacon (Strava premium) to a public link like the forums or Facebook event. That way, people can just click the link and it’ll show them your exact location. It only requires one person to do so, so if you don’t have premium you can ask someone else to post the link.

I’ll state a caveat, it’s probably best to confirm with the riders if they are comfortable with their location being broadcasted (by association). It shouldn’t be such a big deal since they’ll post their rides to Strava anyway, but after the fact is different from current.

Duly noted on the difficulty of meeting up enroute… That said, is there an estimated ETA for Navy Yard? I may be well enough tomorrow to be social, but not do the full ride.

Feel better Kitty. But take.the metro anyway… no need to overdo.it :)

Feel better soon, Kitty! ETA for Navy Yard is 2:00-2:15 — again, just a best guess. If you’d like to PM me your cell phone number, I can text you when we’re leaving Franklins, which should give you about an hour’s lead time.

Thanks, that’s a great idea. I don’t have Strava premium, but I’ll see if someone else on the ride is willing to do this.

My Garmin should be able to do LiveTrack, but I haven’t tried it before and am reluctant to offer that up for this ride. I’ll try to get that figured out before the next group ride I lead, though.

Several people expressed interest in doing a DC loop this Sunday, so I’m posting this as an “open to all BAFS participants and friends” ride.

The plan: roll out from the Whole Foods in Pentagon City at 9:00 a.m. on Sunday. (I’ll be there earlier if you want to join me for breakfast or coffee.) Take the Capital Crescent Trail up to Bethesda and stop for coffee — likely at Quartermaine, although I’m open to suggestions. Head east to hit the Sligo Creek and Northwest Branch Trails, with a lunch stop at Franklins in Hyattsville. Take the Anacostia Riverwalk Trail to Navy Yard and a beer/ice cream break. Circle back and finish in Pentagon City.

The route: http://www.mapmyride.com/routes/view/1914792920. It’s about 45 miles, on a mix of trails and roads. There’s a gentle but steady climb up the CCT to Bethesda, and there’s one hilll on Forsythe that I had to walk the last time I did this route. (I’m terrible at hills.) Other than that, the route is pretty flat.

The details: social pace (12-15 mph), no drop. Bring a lock for the coffee/lunch/beer stops. The temperature is forecast to be about 35 degrees at the start but above 50 degrees by the end, so layer appropriately. If you’d like to join us for just part of the ride, you’re welcome to do that too.

Thanks for organizing a great ride yesterday! It was a fun time meeting everyone on the ride (and it was a big group!)

Join me on Thursday, February 1st for a happy hour at Clare & Don’s Beach Shack in Falls Church.

I should be there around 5:30 pm. They have good prices of beverages, excellent food, and are a short jaunt from both the W&OD and East Falls Church metro station. 😎
