Your mileage may have varied, but for me, the name was synonymous with a good local bike shop. Saw this today:

Now its sounds… corporate. Good on the guys who started it and saw it through. I hope things inside don’t change despite the name.

Chuxtr may have some inside info on the forthcoming changes. I own three Treks (used to have four) two of which I bought at the Clarendon Rev. I’ve always gotten good repair service. There’s one employee that I wouldn’t mind seeing move on. I’d imagine that biggest change will be that the stores will only carry Trek bikes and that there will be a lot more inventory. As a Trek fanboy, that sounds pretty good to me.

I don’t really have any “inside baseball” stuff to share. All the Rev stores will be madeover and become Trek “factory” stores. They will (I assume) only carry Trek bicycles. And Trek/Bontrager clothing, accessories, etc. will likely dominate. But hopefully they will carry some other brands. Not sure how big an inventory of bikes they’ll actually stock because the business model seems to be moving more towards having customers order what they want and have the bike delivered to the store for assembly, etc. But certainly the Clarendon store (and the new Rockville store) have enough square footage to be able to stock loads of bikes. So if you’re a Trek fanboy — like Judd — you’ll be happy. The service department, however, will continue to wrench on all bikes, Trek or otherwise.
Good article about “homogenization” of the bike industry and the rise of “concept stores,” which is kind of what Trek’s purchase of Rev is all about.

On a semi-related note. Felt (what I ride) got bought by Rossignol. Times are a changing in the bike industry.

ParticipantI need to give them a call today and see if they’ll stay open for awhile longer before any remodel. My commuter has finally decided it’s had enough with life and needs a serious tune up, and they’ve always done better work than the Spokes shops that are closer to me.
I like how a commenter on Arlnow called Treks the “ford focus” of bikes. Since I also own a ford focus and find it to be simple, reliable, and easy to operate, it makes sense I’d also like treks
My trek pilot has been a seriously reliable commuter, but when it finally bites the dust I plan to get a trek crossrip or something similar since the pilot has been such a good bike.

ParticipantFrom what I’ve heard, it sounds like Trek is cutting out the middle man by buying up a bunch of shops around the county from an ageing demographic of 65+ year old owners from around the country who don’t have an exit plan from retiring from the bike business.
Clarendon will likely get a remodel after the summer season as one of the “Concept Stores“
Now they’ll be able to carry a bunch of sizes at the ends of the bell curve for non-normal sized humans. Yay!

ParticipantThe quality of repair service is always dependent on the wrenches (the repair staff). That is ALWAYS in flux as there is a shortage of qualified wrenches. I would assume with the reorganization of Revolting Cyclings, the wrenches may change.

ParticipantI realize they’re a local institution, but I haven’t been in one in years. Mostly because of location, but also because to me, they always had a sort of “factory store” vibe about them (YMMV) – rebranding is just a formality.

ParticipantThe Revolution in Clarendon is my LBS, and its gotten to the point that its where “everybody knows my name” and vice versa. So while I’m glad they’re not closing, I am a skosh nervous as to what it will mean for personnel and the local-family vibe.
I’d be more upset were it not for the fact I’m a happy Trek owner…

Same here! The bikes in our family are Treks and our car is a Ford Focus! Though to be real, I’ve put more miles on the Treks. 😎

At least not Mainers with their Subarus!

ParticipantI popped into Revolution in Clarendon today and was able to chat with the gang. It sounds like for that location it should be business as usual; most of the staff is carrying over for instance. Plus they were pretty upbeat about it. I guess ol’ Mike was looking to retire and this turned out to be the best option for the Revolution family. One of my pals over there was stoked about this meaning that they can receive benefits, and being with Trek means opportunities for career growth.
So all-in-all, my biggest concerns were assuaged. My LBS family will be sticking around. Plus they’ll be honoring my protection plan for its full duration, despite it being discontinued.

It’s a Midwest thing, you wouldn’t understand.

ParticipantDoes anyone know what the status of the Georgetown store is? I have four bikes which I bought there, all Treks. Two are still under their protection plan.

Word on the street is they’re going to stay open, but there might be some changes to faces and of course what they stock. It sounds like the main goal is to make this a seemless for the customers as possible, so my guess is if you bought the protection plan from Revolution, they’ll let it ride it through its natural life-cycle.
…
(Yes I couldn’t let a pun opportunity slip.

Yes–I confirmed this today when my Raleigh’s wheel went in for replacement under the KPP plan at the Clarendon store (7 flats within a few months, argh). They’ll still honor it through the end of the plans life, which is another 3 years for me. Staff mostly seems the same.
Tune ups are also the same cost (on sale for another week I think) which is helpful
