my ‘puter here at work wouldn’t let me click the button regarding whether I actually plan to participate, so I guess I’ll complete this later on a device that isn’t so ancient and loaded up with various blocks.

Let me know if it’s still a problem when you get home.

We just passed 100 registrations! Of course, there are 113 people in the 2017 Freezing Saddles Strava club, and only 103 who have actually registered for Freezing Saddles, so somewhere out there, there are still at least 10 who need to register.

I just signed up on both the registration page and the Strava leaderboard without a glitch. Thanks for setting this up so that we can have some fun riding bikes this winter.:)

Are we planning on having equal teams? If so then capping at 250 is a bit inflexible. Does the 250 include slackers?

25 teams of 10 or 10 teams of 25 are our only options using 250 team players.

    Other options are:
    Teams of 11
    22 teams – 242 players
    23 teams – 253 players

    Teams of 12
    20 teams – 240 players
    21 teams – 252 players

    Teams of 13
    19 teams – 247 players
    20 teams – 260 players

    Teams of 14
    18 teams – 252 players

consularrider is in a wintry climate. So is elwbikes, even more so. Boomer, phatboing and especially Powerful P are all in milder (or summer!) climates. Their saddles won’t be freezing at all.
    Discuss?

We only guarantee that the first 250 players will be registered. Anyone who registers after that will be added only if a) we need to fill out a team, or b) someone drops out.

In the past, not all teams have always been of equal size. (The first year I participated, we had some teams with 10 people, but my team won with only 9.) It is possible to put someone with ridiculously high miles on a team, but have that team one person smaller than the others. However, Sunyata also has the flexibility to grab someone off the waiting list to fill out a team.

In short, Sunyata is the team assignment czar. She can handle this.

Does Boomer get more winter riding credit if he doesn’t specify that the temperature is in Celsius? Those 10 degree rides are killer!

You may get more responses to this one if it goes into the general carping thread, or a separate thread, rather than under registration. Personally, I don’t propose to discuss. :)

Just confirming since I didn’t see it listed in the rules in the first post, but it was discussed elsewhere – I believe that one must use a device to record your ride and no manual entries in Strava are allowed. If this is true, then no need for me to register.

You might want to PM hozn on this. He’s the tech guru.

This is true. I confirmed with hozn last week and included that information in the information sticky post as part of the registration instructions.

    1) We use Strava for data collection. If you don’t already have an account, you will need to sign up for one, and join the Strava club located here. You also need a device (gps or smartphone) to track your miles. Manual entries will not be accepted. This is a change from previous years. This is not because we don’t trust you, but to decrease some of the burden on the leaderboard techie people; manual entries tend to cause problems on some of the leaderboards and require extra work to manage. Sorry.
But thanks for the opportunity for me hijack your question to let people know I am updating the post again this year and trying to make sure the most important information is in the post, and links to other current discussions are included. HEY PEOPLE! I’m updating the sticky post again and trying to keep it current! Right now it’s mostly registration instructions and general game info, but will have things like happy hour dates, team announcements, etc when they are scheduled. If you want to know current status about something freezing saddles related but don’t have the time or patience to wade through the entire subforum looking for it, try there first. It might be there.

Well, at least I could do my part to help Freezing Saddles even if it weren’t by riding a lot.

Yes. Essentially you will be identical to a slacker. Organize rides; offer pointless prizes; smack talk at claeys team; “discuss” e-bikes; come to coffees; earn beerneuring points; play bicycle tag…all in the spirit of joining the reindeer games. In fact, we can use a host-with-the-most for the FSLNHPP who isn’t racking up some last minute miles. Mark your calendar.
