It’s true. The steps involved, they don’t work for people who aren’t already intimately affiliated. Inviting people to join in winds up being embarrassing.

Yeah, I wish we could make them simpler. A lot of the problem relates to the fact that we need to use the Strava interface in order to track miles, and don’t have control over how many steps that takes. About 95% of the time that someone has an issue, it’s because they skipped one or more of the steps that Strava requires.

Second biggest issue is getting people to confirm their e-mails. But doing so is a requirement for the e-mail service we use. If we don’t use an e-mail service, all our e-mails go into spam.

So yeah, it sucks. But we haven’t found a way to make it not suck.

I was so upset by the process I almost asked for a refund. At the very least I think the people who run this thing should have their pay docked.

I know from professional experience that navigating Strava’s UI is no ride through the park. All the steps are necessary to make it work for us—I’m grateful that people were willing to take it on to create this frozen fantasticness for all of us. The rest of it is necessary for all the pieces that need to be in place for this thing to work for 250 unaffiliated randos to ride together. And the instructions are brilliantly written; even I can follow them, and I’m an idiot.

Yeah I’m too stupid to fix it myself, and thanks for all the work you’ve done over the years Carol. I had some more constructive criticism but went with the shorthand because I know nobody gives a shit.
