I recently went to the Bike Lane in Reston Towne Center on a friend’s recommendation. I found the folks there very easy to talk to and helpful. I purchased a bike and later a bike fit from them. I was able to watch how they interacted with customers and liked what I saw. I bought a Trek, I do not remember other brands since I was looking for a Trek. There is also A1 bike store just outside of Herndon, I shopped there and they had a good selection. Mixed reviews on the shop. You will hear about Green Lizard in Herndon, high end shop, not much in show room. Hope it helps.

TriGirlSara bought a Trek at the Bike Lane in Reston and was just telling me about how awesome they were when she went to get a professional fitting and found out that the one she bought wasn’t the right size. I don’t have any personal experience. They sell Trek, Felt and Surly bikes.

The Green Lizard folks are super nice and friendly, although all of my visits there have involved smoothies/coffee and not bike stuff.

A little further down the road, but I can guarantee that Helen at Bikenetic in Falls Church will provide her a great bike buying experience as a newbie female biker. Also, Bikenetic has pie.

I’ve had good luck at Green Lizard for service and random questions. They’re open about the fact one of the reasons they opened the store was that one of the female owners always felt talked down to at other stores, so they pride themselves about being really female-friendly. At least when it comes to service it’s true. I’ve always felt respected there and been given great advice and service. I’ve seen them sell bikes before and they also don’t seem to over sell which I thought was great.

I recommend she goes to a few stores like bike lane and green lizard, tries a bunch of bikes, then decides which one is her favorite. But definitely try a few at more than one shop. The stores all carry different brands, and one brand might work better than others for her.
