ParticipantIf you have the space, don’t use the stand for storage. That’s my only advice.

ParticipantHow come?

ParticipantIts gonna be pretty tough to get out of spending over $100
I have the Top Peak TwoUp in the living room with two bikes haning on it right now. Not enough space to have them mounted properly (horizontally), I have them both hanging vertically with the seat tubes resting on the stand arms. It’s location behind the TV makes it tough to get set up to use as a service stand, and the few times that I have used the stand, its been adequate but not great.
If you want to do your own work, you really would do well to get a stand that will support and secure the bike.
All of that said, if it looks like the type of thing you’d like, I’ll gladly part with mine for $100.

ParticipantThe ceiling in my basement is very low – not tall enough for two bikes. My plan is two of the $20-30 fold down mounts that are just for storage, and one more expensive version that’s meant for doing work on the bike (something like this).

Only because it becomes an annoyance to rotate bikes around to put the one you need to work on on the rack.

Could you post a photo of that? I’m having a hard time visualizing how you describe the bikes on the stand in the space you described. I’m using a Topeak Dual Touch 2 stand in a location that’s a little too short to stack the bikes one above the other without some overlap. Wondering if your method would work better.

That shouldn’t be too big a deal. It’s not that many bikes, and I don’t do that much maintenance. The Bianchi would probably hang out in the work stand because currently most of my recreational riding is the new fixed gear because it’s so sexy I just can’t resist.

For some reason I always thought that pic was over a stairwell landing instead of behind a TV. probably safer that way.

Participantnot sure its terribly safe. big tv right in front of the stand would definitely topple over if the stand fell into it.
I used to keep one bike hanging on the banister on our entrance stairs. Haven’t done that in a while though
