A friend of mine who works at the Reagan building is thinking about biking to work. I think some of you on here work there and might be able to give me the skinny on the what the details are for bike parking and showers there. Any advice?
I understand they have both, but I don’t know how extensive. Dirt should be able to provide a rundown if he sees this.

ParticipantI investigated this recently and the gym there is fricking amazing, just amazing. You have to be GS, and on a special list, but if you can get in, do it. As for parking, plenty to be had in the garage, or across the street at DOC next to the black vans.

ParticipantEPA has a bike room that they let civilians use. There are showers. Lockers are reserved for government employees and there is a waiting list. Their facility is arguably one of the best in the city. I’ll see if I can get some contact info for you to explore it.

ParticipantSorry for the quick and incomplete answer last night. It was the end of a long day and I knew I had another long one today.
There’s a contact person at EPA who administers access to the bike facility. Usually access is granted very quickly, but it is done in an official way to keep some sense of control over the combination lock to the security door. I will get that information for you and send it as soon as possible. It was on my work computer, which I no longer have access to.
Talk to you soon.

ParticipantHuman powered delivery vehicles are not allowed to access the loading dock and there was one crazy cop who thought handcarts were not permitted to be used in the building. So I had to give up a nice daily run. When Barney Fife would find me entering, he would tell the screeners not to let me in. So I would use a different entrance until finally guards at every entrance learned I wasn’t allowed in there with more than I could carry. Shame on EPA for being in a building that only allows motorized delivery vehicles! Sorry for the rant.

ParticipantSo EPA does not own or run this building, we lease the space. The parking garage is run by one of those outfits that leases space all over the city. But it is true, you can’t get access to the bike room inside Potomac Yard unless you have an EPA issued access card. The whole facility is on lockdown. Even though I have this badge, I never bother to go inside because it is basically a room inside a parking garage with cars roaring past. Might as well change by the roadside.
