I might just be paranoid but I don’t ever plan on storing any of my rides outside. I’ve had two separate friends think they were safe locking their insane beef up (think ELITEs with more money than brains with $20K rides) with heavy chains and Ulocks in their garage. When I mentioned “you know, you have outlets in your garage and a grinder can cut through those chains in no time” they brushed me off as paranoid.

That’s a good point, but I figure at my house if someone wanted it bad enough they could just break in through my glass sliding basement door. Then again, I don’t have anything remotely approaching $20k. If mine approached four figures with added parts I would be earnestly surprised.

Sort of figure it’s all a matter of how much someone wants something from you.

Of course we could also all play bike detective one week and scour the local bikes versus reported stolen bikes. I bet with 100 or 200 of us from the forum doing it, we would probably knock down a half dozen to a dozen bike theives. It would be like those spontaneous crowd experiments except it would be doing something good.

Clearly, you just need to invest in a better garage door.

If I have criminals in my house, my bike is the least of my concerns.
