Someone also put that sticker on one of the buttons for a light in Reston recently. But there the buttons actually trigger the walk signals during certain times of the day — like early am. In general the buttons around here seem to be functional, at least the ones on intersections that I cross.

Despite the tongue-in-cheek message, I think this button works also. There are usually some cars waiting at the intersection, which triggers the light anyway. If you push the button you get a Walk signal at the same time the cars get their green light. If I am lazy and don’t push the button, there is no Walk signal but the cars still get their green light, which is good enough for me.
