Could the rubber gasket be part of the issue? Although that doesn’t make sense when I think about it, as a schrader valve is “fatter” than a presta, and if your pump still works on presta valves…

    I’m no expert, but:

    1. I assume you’ve tried it on more than one Schraeder valve to make sure it’s a pump issue and not a valve issue…?

    2. Assuming it’s a good quality pump, you can probably buy a replacement head for just a few dollars. I know I was able to do that a few years ago for my Planet Bike floor pump.

Additional info, like if it’s an auto head or a dual head on the pump might be helpful for others who know more than I…

My pump has rather suddenly stopped engaging a Schrader valve. I put it on, pull back the lever, and nothing connects. It works fine on Presta valves. Any ideas?

In most Schrader valve pump heads, there’s usually a small pin that opens the Schrader valve when the chuck lever is engaged. My guess is that the pin has either become dislodged, or has broken. The good news is, if the pin is broken, and it’s a relatively common pump manufacturer, most shops may have a spare lying around or can special order the part.

Thanks for the advice. I replaced the pump head sometime last year, though I suppose that doesn’t mean it doesn’t need it again. Maybe this time I’ll try taking it apart and just re-seating the parts? Maybe it’s just getting a little wonky.
