    How to play #PublicArtFinder:

    1. RIDE your bike AT LEAST 10 MILES and share on this thread the discovery of any art form (loosely defined: you know it when you see it) that is readily accessible to the general public. Only one art form allowed per 10+mile ride. If you want to discover more art, then start a new ride on Strava and post another art find. Rides less than 10 miles do not count.

    2. POST a picture [using Small resolution] on this thread of your art find with some or all of YOUR BIKE IN IT. Pics that don’t include your bike will not count. Adding your pic to your Strava ride helps w/ verification, but does not substitute for posting on this thread.

    3. #Publicartfinder pics must be POSTED ON THE DAY of the ride just like #scavhunt.

    4. Include the LOCATION of your art find so that others may find it, too.

    5. Use HASHTAG #publicartfinder (not CaSe SeNsItIvE) in your Strava Ride title so that it will appear on the FS2023 #publicartfinder leaderboard https://freezingsaddles.org/pointless/hashtag/publicartfinder I will sweep this leaderboard
for data periodically to feed the official #publicartfinder scoreboard found here: https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1Ob3HlhU34D4xrtbttsDIAu2knT8MOIZQ2EcAr6s5YF0/edit#gid=358841852

    6. FOLLOW ME (Boomer Cycles) on Strava so that I can verify your #publicartfinder rides.

Entries will be judged by some faceless cabal on subjective criteria that may include use of creative objects (like your bike interacting w/ an art form), composition, light, artistic flair, witty captions, great stories, # of quality submissions, or # likes, kudos or dislikes, and bonus points. In the event of a tie, efficacy rules: most art discoveries/least amount of miles wins.

If you played #publicartfinder in years past, go find some New2U art!

Now go Ride and Seek some public art ;-

Slit Figure by Al Landzberg. Made of welded steel and measuring 76 inches tall, it was selected by Plaza America’s then-owner, Intertech Corporation of Washington, DC to be a centerpiece for the plaza. Plaza America is on Sunset Hills Rd, just east of where it intersects with Reston Parkway.

Taking an alternate way through an office complex to avoid a high-speed and tedious street, I came across this delightful mural painted on the back wall of patio area. The building is at the end of Edmund Halley Dr off Sunrise Valley Dr in Reston. The mural is on the side of the building closest to the toll road.

    1/13 mural through brush
    MBT North of Brookland metro
You can see it better from the metro than from the bike path, hard to capture, but still brightens the ride

Today I bring you art created by Mother Nature in collaboration with Father Time. This is an old construction vehicle of some sort that I came upon on, coming around a corner today’s ride. I just love the colors, and when I positioned my bike next to it, saw the blue canister up at the other end. Located adjacent to Old Eagle School Rd near the intersection with Devon Park Dr, Wayne, PA.
