    How to play #PublicArtFinder:

    1. RIDE your bike AT LEAST 10 MILES and share on this thread the discovery of any art form (loosely defined: you know it when you see it) that is readily accessible to the general public. Only one art form allowed per 10+mile ride. If you want to discover more art, then start a new ride on Strava and post another art find. Rides less than 10 miles do not count.

    2. POST a picture [using Small resolution] on this thread of your art find with some or all of YOUR BIKE IN IT. Pics that don’t include your bike will not count. Adding your pic to your Strava ride helps w/ verification, but does not substitute for posting on this thread.

    3. #Publicartfinder pics must be POSTED ON THE DAY of the ride just like #scavhunt.

    4. Include the LOCATION of your art find so that others may find it, too.

    5. Use HASHTAG #publicartfinder (not CaSe SeNsItIvE) in your Strava Ride title so that it will appear on the FS2023 #publicartfinder leaderboard https://freezingsaddles.org/pointless/hashtag/publicartfinder I will sweep this leaderboard
for data periodically to feed the official #publicartfinder scoreboard found here: https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1Ob3HlhU34D4xrtbttsDIAu2knT8MOIZQ2EcAr6s5YF0/edit#gid=358841852

    6. FOLLOW ME (Boomer Cycles) on Strava so that I can verify your #publicartfinder rides.

Entries will be judged by some faceless cabal on subjective criteria that may include use of creative objects (like your bike interacting w/ an art form), composition, light, artistic flair, witty captions, great stories, # of quality submissions, or # likes, kudos or dislikes, and bonus points. In the event of a tie, efficacy rules: most art discoveries/least amount of miles wins.

If you played #publicartfinder in years past, go find some New2U art!

Now go Ride and Seek some public art ;-

Large and elaborate Christmas decoration on Spring Vale Ave in McLean

Is that “accessible to the general public” or does a MAMIL/MAWIL risk getting shot while trespassing on private property in a “stand your ground” jurisdiction?

thank you, #publicartfinder, for promoting me to look up this installation I’ve passed a zillion times. I never new that the lights coordinated with the ambient soundscape. I kept waiting for them to turn blue again to better match my bike… Now I know why I couldn’t figure out the order to the changing pattern of colors–they had to match the traffic sounds!

Actual underpass condition today is a far cry from this artist rendering in GGW 2015 piece :(

    Stellar submission!

1 Extra point for sharing the research on the art installation and 2 Extra points for waiting out traffic to get the light pattern to match your bike color (even tho that was a fail)!

    3 xtra point total!

The Mobile Mechanic is in da house and tearing it up!!:-0

Can you please include the jurisdictions with your cross streets as you may be in multiple DMV (and beyond) jurisdictions across state lines on any given day.

    Merci beaucoup [emoji1374]

New2Me art outside Diament Jewelry at 51 District Square SW, Washington, DC. This woman-led business has another store in Shirlington Village that opened in June 2022.

I was looking for Spliff Nation Dispensary at the Wharf DC for #420 and did not find it. But luckily, riding and seeking paid back in the form of public art.

There’s so much great art on the MBT now, much of it new!

I took a pic of a bit of it today. Didn’t get it straight. Friends were waiting. I know Boomer or Serdar woulda done a better job, but I think it’s still pretty.

Unexpected find while riding through Vienna. This is on the sidewalk in front of the Freeman Store & Museum on Church St, just north of where the W&OD crosses.

A sculpture? A bench? A rainbow! Amidst omnipresent construction, tall buildings, and traffic.
(Extra exciting to find rainbow art because when I started out on my bike commute today there was a microshower that brought an actual real rainbow in the sky!)
