I always wondered what this was about. I still do but I know a little bit more about it after I finally stopped and took a closer look. Then my next door neighbor happened by and I learned a little more about him too! And I have #publicartfinder game to blame, er I mean thank, for that.

Nokomis by Danny Lane is located in Reston Town Center in the green space bounded by Reston Pkwy and Presidents St, and New Dominion Pkwy and Market St. Lane says he titled the piece “after the legendary Â…mythological, Algonquin, grandmother of Nanabozh. They are the key players in the Algonquin/ Powhatan creation myth. The sculpture certainly has a feminine presence and after searching I chose to localize the title by linking to the Algonquin tribe who were/are from the region, along with the Powhatans.” More about this piece of public art in Reston: https://publicartreston.org/project/untitled-3/
I shoulda written down the intersection but….. This cool structure is in DC – I wanna say NE but the truth is [emoji848][emoji1744] Rod showed it to me first, but not today. It looks really cool on live photo cuz the whole thing changes with the wind.

I decided on the interests of getting a closer pic to use the [emoji605] on the traffic sign on the left rather than the bikes of my companions underneath it as planned
Duke Ellington, Bessie Smith, Martin Luther King Jr, and Rosa Parks. Left of Duke is the Atlas Theater which was a movie theater but he may have played there. It’s now the Atlas Performing Arts Center. To the right of Rosa is a bus at Union Station.
