Greetings inhabitants of the planet earth…
I was talking with my Rice Krispies this morning and they told me to go to the Proteus Thursday Night Potluck. Anyone want to join me and my cargo bike on this quest? From downtown it is about 14 miles and it winds through neighborhoods and bike paths. Pot Luck is from 7-9pm. That has us getting home late. Good lights are strongly recommended.
I’ll be leaving from the Freedom Plaza fountain at about 5:15pm.
This is roughly the route there: http://ridewithgps.com/routes/784592
And roughly the route home: http://ridewithgps.com/routes/797417Let me know if you’d like to join.
Hugs and kisses,
Pete
@Greenbelt: You planning on going to this?Yes, Laurie and I will be there. The mac and cheese is not to be missed. I’ll see if I can get off work early and join your group. Otherwise, probably see you around 7. -Jeff

ParticipantFollow up — there’s a rumor the shop’s going to try to put together an entry in the Baltimore kinetic sculpture race. Another event not to be missed:

ParticipantI would like to do the potluck when the clocks have changed and there is more daylight for the ride.

Coolness. As of right now “The Group” consists of just the 7 of us…. Me and my imaginary friends.
We’ll do more of these when the daylight gets longer. I’m on a mission tonight, so I’m going with lights. Luckily I can work from home tomorrow.

Same here. I’ve never ridden up that way.

ParticipantOK to meet on the Penn. Ave bike track on the way? I can be out on the Penn. Ave bike lane in front of the Newseum at about 5:20 or so if you want to meet up for the ride out to MD. Two huge green panniers and yellow helmet. I’ll recognize the big dummy (the bike, of course) -Jeff

See you in front of the Newseum at 1720hours. I’ll be on The Dummy.

ParticipantThanks for a great ride, Greenbelt. We had a lot of fun and a great ride home. I rolled into the barn just after 2300 hours as I’d hoped.
Riding to College Park makes far a dang long work day, but WOW was it worth it. Jill and her crew put on a really fun evening. What an amazing shop.

ParticipantWas a beautiful night for riding. What Dirt doesn’t mention is that he hauled a bikeload of no-longer-used unicycle stuff up to give to a Proteus mechanic who’s an avid unicyclist. Thanks so much!

ParticipantSeeing the smile on his face made my day.
I also didn’t mention that I had to chase all the way back to DC and ended up getting a dang good workout out of it.

ParticipantIt was a beautiful night for a ride. Great company too. It was the most lively Proteus pot luck in memory – no mac and cheese, but great chili and beer instead. Thanks, Pete, for making the trip with the unicycle. Ben (aka “the bike whisperer”) was absolutely stunned and thrilled to get the unicycle. I’m sure he’ll be riding it through the shop soon…. I love the generosity of the cycling community! — Laurie

ParticipantI guess this means we’ll never see a video of Dirt riding a unicycle while wearing the infamous pink Forever Lazy suit….

Yeah… That may not happen. After an injury, I’ve given away all of my unicycles because I can’t ride them anymore.
