ParticipantHere are some video clips from last Sunday’s ride. For the uninitiated, these clips are pretty dull and feature choppy amateurish editing. They are best viewed with no sound (unless you like to listen to squealing brakes)! But you can skip around to get a flavor of the scenery and ride tempo. I tried to attack on the upwind leg at Hains Point when people slowed for the intersection, but Jack (on the track bike with the lock around his butt) caught me on the downwind leg!

ParticipantThe weather radar looks really bad, so I think we’ll cancel today’s ride to Hains Point. It doesn’t look like there’s any way we’d get downtown before getting drenched. I’ll ride over to the shop anyways and see if anybody shows up — maybe we could take a short ride in the area before the rain. But if you want to see the blossoms, get in your car right away before the heavy rain brings them down later this morning! We’ll try again next Saturday at 10am for the Kite Festival. -Jeff

ParticipantLooks like we’re on for Saturday’s ride to the Mall for the Blossom kite fest. We’ll leave the New Deal cafe at 9:30, Proteus at 10am, get down to the Mall around 11:30 or so. Probably get some lunch around 12:30 or 1pm and head back. Should be a great day — right now they’re saying 60s and sunny, with slight chance of showers. Sun showers, hopefully.

Kite Festival Highlights
•A custom kite arch constructed of 100 handmade small pink kites, organized by the Maryland Kite Society, provide a gorgeous focal point to open the day
•Displays of hand-made kites
•Flight demonstrations by Master kitemakers from across the U.S. and other countries
•The Hot Tricks Shootout is a stunt kite flying competition. Pairs of fliers compete against each other to see who can do the most interesting tricks in a 30 second countdown. At the end of each 30-second segment, the flier changes and every 3 minutes a winner is determined for each round. Winners of each of the rounds stay in the competition and the flier who is left at the end of all rounds is the winner of the event.
•The Rokkaku Battle is held at the end of the day when individuals or teams try to cut or ground the other kites. The last kite in the sky wins the contest.
