What about businesses that allow their trucks to block bike lanes while they load/un-load? Do they have any responsibility toward this, or does it rest solely with the truck driver? What if it’s a chronic problem?

Really depends on the organization and the enforcement. I know from friends that work there that UPS considers the tickets that result a normal cost of doing business, but I’d like to think that faced with the option of a picture on the front page of some newspaper or website it would garner some change in policy. Ultimately it’s a DC traffic enforcement issue to begin with.

Snapping a photo and posting to http://dc.mybikelane.com/ is a way to vent frustration, but I’m not sure how much it helps!

Perhaps becoming a photographer or a film maker isn’t a bad idea afterall. Here’s a BBC article. The cyclist wears a helmet cam for insurance and evidence. Perhaps WABA can make a bulk buy and sell helmet cams at a discount?

I admire your trust in “the authorities”. However I suggest that if the authorities had the resources to prevent double parking, we would not be discussing the issue now. .

Oh, I dunno about that. 15th street, which I work on is a prime example. They certainly had no lack of parking enforcement, and now that 15th is a bike lane on one side they now have 50% less work.

I’m sure that they more than pay their salaries in income brought in.
