Old Judd would have loved this route. New Judd has only done 1 HP lap this year and it was only because there were rumors of Frozemon down there.

You can make that 0 HP laps by riding the loop backwards.

Doing some route planning tonight and I managed to drag to Google Street View precisely at this spot to see a delivery robot:

    https://www.google.com/maps/@38.9155804,-77.0370869,3a,75y,49.34h,88.28t/data=!3m6!1e1!3m4!1sSiss9TFZXdcfjvxQlQYK8A!2e0!7i13312!8i6656

So far, there have been zero robot presidents from Illinois.

    Good news everybody!

Komorebi will be joining the ride as the sweep. Komorebi’s home state is California, the state most widely associated with the only President born in Illinois.

Sarah Bee has graciously agreed to help marshal as we’ll be riding in the city and are likely to get split at stop lights. She’s from the great state of South Dakota, home of Mount Rushmore which features Illinois’ most famous President.

I have also asked Kitty and Emm to assist with marshaling, but since they’re both from Michigan, which no President except for Gerald Ford has lived in, I am still awaiting their response.

I’m hosting a President’s Day Ride again this year. In recognition of the bicentennial of the Great State of Illinois, this year’s ride will visit sites associated with the four Presidents who have called Illinois home: Lincoln, Grant, Reagan and Obama. I’m planning just 6 stops this year. At each stop I’ll share some history of the site or individual. I’ve tried to pick sites that for the most part you probably haven’t visited. (I’ve only been to two myself). I’ll once again try to tie historical events to the present.

The official ride will meet at the Lincoln Memorial at 10:30. I plan to get rolling by 10:45. The ride will end at the Lincoln Cottage, which has a museum and also does tours of the cottage (tours are $15). I’m planning on visiting the museum. Scheduling a tour of the cottage with an unknown number of folks arriving at an unknown time will be too unwieldy, so I opted not to include it as part of the ride. If the weather is nice (it was awesome last year) I may do a half DC loop back to Virginia.

I’m planning on starting the morning by having pancakes at Lazy Mike’s in Falls Church at 8 a.m. There was a great crowd there last year.

Hope to see you one the ride.

As an aside, US Grant was one of a few Presidents associated with NYC – he died there, and is buried in Grant’s tomb in Manhattan (in case you were wondering who is buried in Grant’s tomb). The only Presidents born in NYC are Teddy Roosevelt (Manhattan) and Donald Trump (Queens) So far none born in Brooklyn (but watch out ;) ) The other President most associated recently with NYC is probably Bill Clinton, who had (has?) an office in Harlem post White House. Richard Nixon lived in Manhattan while working for a law firm after departing public life, after losing his race for Governor of California in 1962. Herbert Hoover lived briefly at the Waldorf Astoria in Manhattan, after leaving office, but before moving back to California. Grover Cleveland lived in NYC (I am not sure where, but I guess Manhattan) in between being 22nd and 24th President, and like Nixon, worked for a law firm (he was also a teacher at the NY Institute for the Blind, before entering law and politics). Of course George Washington resided in NYC AS President, and John Adams as VP, and Thomas Jefferson as Sec of State, and James Madison as a member of Congress.

Ken should have posted a spoiler alert…. Grant is one of the Presidents who will be included on this ride.

Nice route. Stop at Princeton (ties to Cleveland and Wilson), I presume?

Funny, you should mention Wilson… one of the President’s on the ride shares something in common with Wilson. Mystery! Intrigue! I definitely wouldn’t want to miss this ride!

Well if you miss this ride, Komorebi’s sweeping job gets really easy since nobody’s going anywhere…

(I’d rather not miss this year’s – but I’m still negotiating terms of my release to see if an acceptable solution can be arranged.)

Bring the whole family! This ride will mostly likely have zero swear words.
