    “Power of 10 Challenge”

    10 months, March – December
    10 rides
    100 km or 100 miles
20,000 feet or 10,000 meters of climbing

Gold = 10 centuries AND 10,000 meters climbing
Silver = 10 mix and match metrics & centuries AND 20,000 feet of climbing
Bronze = 10 metric centuries AND 20,000 feet of climbing

Note that these are minimums – you may exceed if you are feeling especially beastly!

Stars in the colors above will be distributed after the ride if you accept the challenge to bedazzle your helmet (by Sarah Bee or other representative)

Special prize if someone does their 1st century ever; same prize for first metric century ever
Special prize for those who decide to improve and switch to centuries at some point during the season
Special prize if completing Kill Bill is one of your chosen centuries
End of season finale happy hour with one’s name emblazoned on the Great Wall of Glitter
**Prizes are TBD, but I am open to suggestions**

Rides must be uploaded to Strava for validation (manual or non-manual).
Rides must be completed in one day without large gaps of time except for rest stops, etc.
Rides do not have to be official, supported rides, but riding in a group with friends is encouraged.
Group photo highly recommended, but optional.

So, I realize this is pretty late for this season although I know some have taken on the challenge. When February rolls around, I’ll get a headcount for next “season” and set up a Strava group. Who’s in?

    Warmly,

    Sarah Bee

March imperial century was done today, 100.43 miles on a decent spring day in Ukraine. That makes 63 consecutive months with at least one 100 plus mile ride (also equals my age). I’ll be about a week late for the happy hour. :(

    The 100 or the 63?

Is anybody else still doing this? I got my sixth month with an imperial century for 2016 today. That makes 66 consecutive months.

I’m still doing it. I’m also doing a power of 60 challenge. 60 rides of 60 miles or longer.

I’m still trying to do it all in one bike ride…:)

Do I get a sticker for riding 41,000′ last weekend, that’s got to count for something:)

    In 60 days?

    I’m still doing this.

Century #1 – Six Pillars Century: Mostly flat. I saw two eagles in a tree!
    https://www.strava.com/activities/568789480

Century #2 – Cap2Cap: Partially on trail. Really good signage but terrible cue sheet. Great weather. Yummy burritos for lunch.
    https://www.strava.com/activities/576083253

Century #3 – Discover Hudson Valley Ride: 5,700+ feet of climbing which is the most I’ve ever done. Great views of the Hudson. Tree lined backroads.
    https://www.strava.com/activities/621951203

I’m not sure what the next one will be yet. I’m doing Ragbrai at the end of the July and will likely extend one of the days into a century, but need to find something in early July.

Or if you want to do a ride the next day (Sunday, July 17) instead, join me on the first 50 miles of my ride to Pittsburgh, then turn around and go back. Voila! 100 miles.

I am signed up for the Tour de Chocolate Town now. Thanks for the suggestion Dave. It was on my list.

Steve O – if the legs are feeling good on the 17th I’m probably down for a partial Pittsburgh ride.

Power of 10 Century #4 completed today:

Tour de Chocolate Town in Hershey, PA. It was a build your own century ride with a 50 mile loop and two 25 mile loops to choose from. Lots of turns. Some nice views of the rolling valleys of Pennsylvania. Just under 4,500 feet of climbing which became a bit mentally tough during the last 25 mile loop. I rode with Komorebi and LeprosyStudyGroup and saw AFHokie at the beginning and later on a flyby. Also the fourth state that I’ve ridden a century in this year.

The fifth Power of 10 Century will likely be a mileage addition to one of the days on RAGBRAI. I’m looking for suggestions for 1 or 2 August centuries.

For local centuries in August, there’s:
Cumberland Valley, MD Century August 6th
Tour de Fredrick Century August 13th
    Reston Century August 28th

I still love this idea and it’s good motivation to do moar stupid stuff. So I’ve done 9 centuries so far, but wait…7 of them were PRE-SOLSTICE. No problem – again, all the more reason to do stupid rides.

    CENTURY 1 – KILL BILL 2016
    https://www.strava.com/activities/593451646
The best/worst century in metro dc with 120+ miles of riding and almost 12k feet of climbing. Plus I did it on my steel single speed!

    CENTURY 2 – 2016 DC Randos Fleche
    https://www.strava.com/activities/534325268
Super chill 24 hour team ride of 240+ miles and 16400 feet of climbing with snow, rain, gusts up to 60 mph, and warm sunshine!

CENTURY 3 – Skyline for Cobbler and Ice Cream
    https://www.strava.com/activities/652288954
A few hills, pleasant temps, 3 black bears, and the best cobbler and ice cream combination in my lifetime.

    3 down, 7 to go…

I guess I’ve done four actual centuries so far this year as follows:

    1. Goshen Pass Randonee. Highly recommended for next year.
    https://www.strava.com/activities/516389300

    2. Kill Bill. Enough Said. May 30th.
    https://www.strava.com/activities/593446497

    3. Friday Coffee ride then the long way home. Because why not. July 1
    https://www.strava.com/activities/626855340

    4. Friday Wine and Gravel Hooky Ride: July 8.
    https://www.strava.com/activities/634577685

Lots of other 70-90 mile rides. Guess I should start turning those into centuries if I really want to get to 10.
