Why did I think this was for next year, other than the fact that I first heard about it in September?

That is what i thought too. Per Sara Bee I think she will set up a strava group for next year.

My December century was the Hains Point 100, finished the day with 102.33 miles. 26 laps plus a version of the Arlington loop ride too and from the event. That was 12 of 12 months in 2016 and my 60th consecutive month.

Based on my past two weeks of riding in Kyiv, I’m starting to have doubts about the feasibility of completing a century ride here in either February or March. Anyone interested in a trip to Agia Galini, Crete the last week of February and first couple days of March?

The 10 day forecast for Kyiv is mostly above freezing so we may get enough melting that I can get out for my February century after all. Still looking at Crete anyway.

nickbull has done a double metric every month for something like 9-10 years. In randonneuring circles, doing 12 consecutive months is called an R-12.

He just completed his 120th getting a super cool award. Crazy hard with 10 winters variables are crazy.

I’m not sure how I missed this challenge but I think I completed it about 3 maybe 4 times last year:) I got slightly carried away…

I intend to take a more “organized” approach this year and focus on “longer” rides, instead of lots of rides.

That said, what happens if I do 10,000 meters in one ride? that would be cool:0 ^^^^^^^

How about 10 centuries in 10 days??? I’m all over that!

Oooo, or maybe a 1000 mile ride, that could be “FUN”

P.S> Rod is coming with me!

Look at riding Rainstorm and RAIN in Indiana in July. 678 miles in six days.

You and Rod are beasts. You need to join some other, more extreme, category of cycling.

Well, the outfitter in Crete never got back to me, so I’m left with one day to get in my February century, good thing February has 29 days this year. Tomorrow’s forecast for the Kyiv area is cloudy and cool. Should be around 40°F with a starting time of 7:30 am, daytime high of 47°F, and a 20% chance of some showers as I am finishing up in the afternoon. I’m planning on a couple of laps of a 40 – 50 mile loop so that I can hit the Embassy between 11 and noon for lunch with my wife, also, that way I can bail if my legs aren’t up to it.

Ok, Sadie Hawkins Century is in the books. I ended up switching bikes at mile 58 to get some fenders since it was drizzly mist all day long. That meant the final 44 miles were much slower (that’s my excuse and I’m sticking to it). That’s a century in each of the two months so far in 2016, 62 consecutive months with at least one ride of imperial century distance.

    “Power of 10 Challenge”

    10 months, March – December
    10 rides
    100 km or 100 miles
20,000 feet or 10,000 meters of climbing

Gold = 10 centuries AND 10,000 meters climbing
Silver = 10 mix and match metrics & centuries AND 20,000 feet of climbing
Bronze = 10 metric centuries AND 20,000 feet of climbing

Note that these are minimums – you may exceed if you are feeling especially beastly!

Stars in the colors above will be distributed after the ride if you accept the challenge to bedazzle your helmet (by Sarah Bee or other representative)

Special prize if someone does their 1st century ever; same prize for first metric century ever
Special prize for those who decide to improve and switch to centuries at some point during the season
Special prize if completing Kill Bill is one of your chosen centuries
End of season finale happy hour with one’s name emblazoned on the Great Wall of Glitter
**Prizes are TBD, but I am open to suggestions**

Rides must be uploaded to Strava for validation (manual or non-manual).
Rides must be completed in one day without large gaps of time except for rest stops, etc.
Rides do not have to be official, supported rides, but riding in a group with friends is encouraged.
Group photo highly recommended, but optional.

So, I realize this is pretty late for this season although I know some have taken on the challenge. When February rolls around, I’ll get a headcount for next “season” and set up a Strava group. Who’s in?

    Warmly,

    Sarah Bee

    All,

Just a reminder that the Power of 10 Challenge 2016 is starting Spring Solstice (March 21) through Winter Solstice (December 21). I will be setting up the Strava page this week. If you’ve forgotten the rules, please see above. We had several gold finishers last year including consul rider and Rod, for whom this challenge isn’t really a challenge. Are you up for it?

    Thanks,

    Sarah Bee

I’m already done. I finished up on March 4th.

I like the flexibility of this challenge. Next year I will do 100 rides of at least 100 yards.

Then we’ll all have a toast in your honor SteveO for not following the start & finish rules! :)
