This fatal crash in Portland yesterday killed a close high school friend of my nephew. I did not know the young man personally, but am saddened, of course.

I was surprised that despite Portland’s reputation as a haven for people on bicycles, that the same level of vitriol was exhibited by commenters to the article there as we see here. I mistakenly assumed that it was accepted and considered more normal there, but I guess not.

Better comments on bikeportland.org, their counterpart to WABA I presume.

This depresses me to no end. No matter what you do right, how many laws you follow, how many safety items you wear, this can still happen. Between this and Tom Palermo’s death…ugh. Then you read the accompanying comments of the neanderthal set and (maybe…probably…it’s just me) but just care less and less about whether I roll through the next frickin’ stop sign.

Anyway, Steve – really sorry for your nephew’s loss. Sorry to be so bitter about it.
