Police Ticketing in Falls Church

Every year the local police do a week-long enforcement pushes. It normally means they give a bunch of cyclists warnings and ignore cars running red lights. Maybe with all the talk about car/bike incidents they chose to do another one. I thought they already did their safety event for the year.

Words of advice: Stop at the signs for 3 seconds. They are probably timing you. Definitely do not say “See you next year!” to the officers. They don’t seem to like it.

But seriously…. I am happy that they are doing some enforcement. I hope they do some for cars too.

Thanks for the heads up. I just rolled through there about 10 minutes ago, and they were gone. Granted, I believe the trail is officially “closed” at dark anyhow.

I didn’t see them when I rolled through there at 6:50 PM. At this intersection, the front car stopped for me and the ugly Red BMW Z3 coupe behind blasted his horn.

This is a dangerous crossing, as many cyclists blow through there at almost full speed, without the benefit of sufficient line of sight. I often see a patrol car parked in the church parking lot overlooking this intersection.

They were out the other night when I went through. Luckily I was warned by another cyclist who had just come through in the other direction. I’ve never gotten a “cop up” before

At 7 am today, the Falls Church Police had two cars pulled over at the Lee Highway/Washington Blvd/W&OD intersection. None of the cyclists there waiting for the light decided to go through on red though.

I blew through on green… Not sure what they were doing. They were there at 0615. Hope everything is okay.
