Just about anything is technically more ‘fun’ than playing Pokemon Go. Like most mobile games it, by design, manages to fall short of actually being a game (in that there’s no fundamental skill based aspect at which someone can improve and compete) while simultaneously tapping into basic subconscious triggers for compulsion and reward while purposefully wasting your time in the pursuit of getting you to pay for interactivity. If you’re too old to appreciate it just be glad that that experience brought you a shortcut to the fact that it sucks.

pardon me for being stereotypical: Two days in a row, car full of asians, half pulled on the sidewalk/still sticking out into the street, stopping in the middle of moving cars, all on their phone. SAME SPOT BOTH TIMES. All I can imagine is there is a pokemon there? If I catch it, will it go away?!?!? HOW DO I MAKE IT STOP!

    That’s not stereotypical, it’s prejudiced

I’m sure some of you heard about the bad news, but there’s some good news in there too.

honestly, everyone I’ve seen playing is not asian–so it seems less stereotypical than misguided.

I saw a National Park ranger playing Pokémon Go on Ohio Drive this morning. At least I think that was what he was doing. He was pressing buttons very fast. This was only a fraction of a mile from where a policeman gave me a ticket two weeks ago for not coming to a complete stop at the northeast intersection of Buckeye Drive and Ohio Drive.

I think you are just upset that you haven’t been able to capture a jigglypuff yet. Might have something to do with not having any more pokeyballs.

Ian, not even a pikachu could get me to return to flicking my pokeballs in public ;)

I just don’t understand this obsession, of all these people, wandering around outside, fiddling with their computers – chasing imaginary prizes – risking life and limb in horrible weather just so their numbers are better than some other morons numbers. I mean, it’s entirely pointless. How could these people be so idiotic???

Well, it’s not as though there weren’t plenty of people on the MUPs with earphones to block out bells or call-outs before this. I’d like to see people developing common sense–or more realistically, clear and enforced rules–regardless of whether the headphones and inattention are due to Pokemon or something else.

The only thing more fun than this game is watching us olds try to understand it on any level. :D

Most pathetic Pokemon Go player ever, that’s me.

I downloaded the game just to experience it first hand. After going through hell registering my “trainer” account (they had to take down the registration process for 24hrs because too many people were signing up), I spotted the first few characters, randomly threw balls at them, watched them make faces at me, and took a couple of screenshots. Woo! Kind of fun, in a stupid sort of way.

Then, after I’d captured my first one (by accident, I wasn’t at all sure what I was supposed to be doing), the game started prompting me to go outside and wander around like an idiot. I haven’t played since.

The hope was when I’m dodging Pokemon players on the trails, I would have some idea what they’re up to. I assure you I haven’t a clue.

Multiple run-ins with Pokemon Goers the past few days on the CCT. One teen riding along at a good clip (17 mph or so) slammed on the breaks with no warning as I was getting ready to pass. (Near the playground in Bethesda). Saw several different people stopped on the west end of the bridge over the C&O canal on different days. Something must be there. There is another spot north of GU/the horrid smell where people have been stopping sometimes in groups.

The worst was a teenage girl who was following her phone and abruptly crazy Ivaned right into the opposite lane north of the tunnel causing an oncoming cyclist to dodge her.

Be safe out there! They gotta catch em all.
