Freezing Saddles rookie offering up a Pointless Prize. Courtesy of our friends at Revolution Cycles (my wife works for Rev). Rev grab bag includes:

    – Bag
    – Sunglasses (just a basic pair of fun sunglasses)
    – Pearl Izumi Transfer Lite headband
    – Pearl Izumi Attack Low socks (size medium so men’s 6-8 or women’s 7-9 or EU 38.5-41; if they’re not you’re size then pay it forward)
    – Bontrager phone wallet (kind of like a dry bag)

Prize will go to the rider with the highest points per mile ratio at the end of the competition. One way to think of it is who can get the most points by riding the least miles. Here’s how it will work:

    – Minimum of 30 rides (not quite at least 3 per week for the duration of the contest)
    – Winner based on total points divided by total miles taken to two decimal places
    – In the event of a tie, the tiebreakers are (in this order):

    1. Most points
    2. Fewest miles
    3. Fewest rides

NOTE: I’m changing the #3 tiebreaker from fewest rides to fewest days ridden. So the minimum of 30 is now 30 days ridden.

    Allez!

I said I wasn’t going to do this daily, but since I can … here’s today’s standings as of 0730.

Hey gang! I was looking at a calendar and by my count, BAFS2017 is 11 weeks long (plus 2 days). So I’m upping the minimum number of ride days from 30 to 33, i.e., 3 ride days a week on average.

Thank you again, jrenaut, for the official scoreboard on the Freezing Saddles website.

Hey gang! Just a reminder that you have 19 days left to get to the minimum of 33 ride days to win this prize. Our current leader would need to ride almost every day to get there. There are a few folks in the top 10 who have already ridden the minimum number of days to be eligible. And a few more who are close and should get there unless they drop off the edge of the world. May the force be with you!

No one near the top of the leaderboard is in the top 20. The highest ranked person on the leaderboard is Sam W who is #168. And the current points per mile leader (Tania P) is #245 on the leaderboard. Also, Matt W who is DFL on the leaderboard is currently in third. And #1 on the Leaderboard (Bob J) is DFL!

Yeah, it’s impossible for anyone near the top of the leaderboard to win this prize. You win this prize if you come as close as possible to riding exactly one mile each day you ride. (In that case, you’d get 11 points per ride.) You get to the top of the leaderboard by riding as many miles as possible each day you ride (and riding all, or almost all, the days). So no one can try for both at once.

I am a little confused by the chart, though. Elizabeth T is still on it. However, she was on my team, and had to drop out early. Thus, she’s not on the leaderboard. I’m not sure why she would still be on this chart?

Is it possible that this leaderboard is pulling based on who joined the BAFS Strava group (335 members) and authenticated the website (something smaller), whereas the other leaderboards are tied to the individual team Strava groups?

Exactly! I created this specifically to “incentivize” those who aren’t able to ride as much.

jrenaut created the leaderboard, so maybe he can answer the question. I’m assuming you’re talking about the leaderboard on the Freezing Saddles website.

Yeah, this leaderboard doesn’t care if you’re on a team. I can maybe fix it sometime but probably not in time for the end of the competition.

Barring unforeseen circumstances, looks like we have a winner …

    with 4.74 points per mile

    Richard B
    418.3 points
    88.3 miles
    34 ride days

Prize to be awarded at the HH on April 4th!
