Winter is long for me and I look forward to spring everyday. The surest sign spring is upon us is Milan San Remo (March 21, 2020), the first spring Pro race. In the spirit of the infamous hill “The Poggio”, the last climb during Milan San Remo, we will have a competition on our local Poggio Strava Segment!
    https://www.strava.com/segments/650024

This is a beautiful part of Rock Creek Park with little traffic. The segment is long enough to be enjoyed, gets ample sunshine, and fits easily into several different loops to keep it fresh. I will try to lead several rides where we can hit the segment more than once.

Who ever does the most repeats of the segment wins the prize. There will be both an individual and a team prize.

Prize– TBD – Maybe a 6-pack of Peroni or Italian soda for Individual and a Large pizza from the Italian store for the team (Venmo to team captain)

It’s only showing half the times I’ve done this segment. It didn’t count the two times I did this yesterday nor the time I did it this morning.

Well MSR is canceled but the Poggio simulations went to an exciting finish!

The Pointless Poggio turned out to be more exciting than the real Milan San Remo. We had 24 unique riders on the segment, with more than half doing it more than once. Ultimately, It came down to Ken B, Frank V (me), and Sam F in the individual competition. Ken and myself were driving the results in the team competition for RestonRolls and IceRoad Truckers, respectively. Ken (and his team by association) was quick to rack up many repeats and was leading both of the competitions for the majority of the time. It took a lot of effort on my part to catch back up and then get my team on top in the team competition (I’m ineligible for the individual as it’s my competition).
On the final day, with a great showing of support several IceRoad Truckers came out to ride the Poggio to clench the team competition. Ken remained on top in the individual with a great margin over second place Sam F.
For his efforts Ken wins a six-pack of Peroni or his favorite Italian soda/seltzers. I’ll reach out to him directly. Maybe I can get it to him before the FS HH.Team IceRoad Truckers wins a large pizza from the Italian store. This prize will be a little harder to award, and I’ll have to take a rain check to when team can get together.

What happened to the Poggio links in the pointless menu? The link still seems to work https://freezingsaddles.org/pointless/generic/poggio-indiv so perhaps its just a bug in the website? Anyone else have trouble finding it?

I’d assume it was removed because it doesn’t appear that anyone was sponsoring it this year. I don’t see it in the Pointless Prize thread. If you look at the diff for this recent PR, that’s confirmed.

I have added this year’s new hashtagged pointless prizes and removed a few that are 1) not sponsored and 2) not attracting participation this year. Nearly all of the new prizes can be accomplished with the /pointless/hashtag view.

But I’m sure no one would object to you sponsoring it, so beat out Chadd Westhoff and claim what’s rightfully yours!

If people are tracking Poggio (or other non-sponsored prizes), we can definitely add them back!

Hi. Secstate. Yes, my team was playing this one. Could you add it back? Thanks!
