I for one am getting tired of Google Maps adding the word “Park” to green spaces only to find that the sign is “Square,” “Playground,” “Recreations Area,” etc, or worse, no sign at all!
That and then showing up and there’s no sign what-so-ever! (I’m looking at you Potomac River Waterfront Park and a LOT of Fairfax County green spaces labeled “whatever park” on Google Maps!)

I found that Ride with GPS is quite reliable. I don’t use Google since I think they are evil.
I rode with Ride with GPS yesterday and found it somewhat useful (especially the voice navigation) while at the same time useless (especially the voice navigation). When it worked, it worked great, but when it didn’t, you got turned around nine ways til Sunday.

ParticipantA fun find out in Clarksburg, MD. It was quite a bit larger than most local parks and after doing a bit of research on the odd name, found out that it was 290 acres and donated by a local resident with the intent of having a Carousel (which is currently on loan to Wheaton Regional Park. I guess one of my next stops will be Wheaton to take a picture of the Carousel (and park sign).

ParticipantAnother fun park out in Mt. Airy, MD. I even rode on some of the trails they had.
They have it all. Even a volleyball court.

Many steps to get to the top, but an interesting place.
Thaddeus S. C. Lowe, Chief Aeronaut of the Union Army Balloon Corps, launched balloons from this location to spy on Confederate forces.February 25, 2020 at 3:04 am #1104786AlanA

ParticipantStopped at Oakcrest Park in Arlington. This park features one of the most exciting segments in Arlington – steep climb one way, steep descent the other:

ParticipantAnother fun park with some trails to ride on. And right after I took this picture, the wind blew the bike over. Luckily it just fell in the grass.

Participantcamiller, what’s the verdict on named subparks?

e.g. Robert Emmet Park, which apparently is part of Rock Creek Park (but disconnected from the main part of it).February 29, 2020 at 2:01 am #1104877Boomer Cycles

e.g. Robert Emmet Park, which apparently is part of Rock Creek Park (but disconnected from the main part of it). From my perspective, it if is listed as a separate named park then it is a different park.

I missed a letter. I hope I don’t get penalized.
And I’m really hoping for a prize for most miles per park. I just don’t feel like splitting my rides into different rides.
Great minds think alike. I had actually thinking about recognizing most parks and most parks per mile. It has been interesting to see all of the different parks people are finding.

ParticipantNote the adult/infant swing combination.
That’s quite unique. I have never seen one like that.
