I keep my commutes private for safety reasons, but have visited and obtained photographic evidence of parks during some of these commutes. All the hashtags for competitions do not work with private rides. If I post the photos with dates on this thread, can they be added to my tally manually?

Not sure about the tally, but you can set privacy zones in Strava so that your start/ending location defined in the zone(s) isn’t shared on the map.

South Park, around the corner from my flat, and where they dumped all the rubble after the WWII bombings, so there may still be an ordinance or two beneath the playground (which is why they didn’t rebuild homes here in the first place!:-0)

If the park sign labels it as a “Playground” instead of a “Park” will that count?

Boomer, you’re killing us with your photo file sizes, takes forever to load. ;)

I think there are different standards floating around, but this is what I’ve been going by:
    * it needs to be labeled as a park, but a specific type of park is OK as long as the name ends in “Park”
    – this means no “x Recreation Areas”, “x Community Centers”, no “x Playground” even if the sign also says “x Department of Parks and Recreation”
    – something like “Johnson Playground Park” would be OK
    * it doesn’t matter what Google maps or the Parks and Rec website says, if you can’t find the sign it’s no good
    – if there’s a sign that shows “Park Rules” or similar, but doesn’t actually have “x Park” on it, it’s no good

Also, I agree with the desire to only see interesting park stuff here. There’s enough parks in the area that we don’t need to see them all here.

Yeah, Google maps had the “Marx Brothers Park (between E 96 and 97th St, and 1st and 2nd Ave),” but when I got there the sign said “Marx Brothers Playground.” :(

Sorry for the sideways picture. And I guess Rio Salado can also mean the Salt River.

Park question: Lyon Park Play Park (the park within the neighborhood Lyon Park in Arlington) is not owned by Arlington County.

The Lyon Park Community Center and park are privately owned by the residents of the Lyon Park neighborhood. They are not Arlington County property.

It’s publicly accessible during daylight hours, so it’s good to go, right?

camiller, thanks for sponsoring this prize! It’s been a good incentive to take some little detours and explore a bit. And, it’s way cheaper than coffee is!
