Grace Hopper Park.
I should have brought my nanosecond to be in the photo.
“Grace Hopper is famous for her nanoseconds visual aid. People (such as generals and admirals) used to ask her why satellite communication took so long. She started handing out pieces of wire that were just under one foot long (11.8 inches (30 cm))—the distance that light travels in one nanosecond.” [Wikipedia]March 12, 2020 at 3:28 am #1105187AlanA
ParticipantTechnically this is a park, but I’m not sure of the rules. There was a smaller sign that showed the park rules.

Just to be sure, I found another park.

ParticipantFinding parks has been a fun activity during FS20! Most parks are just your average playground, sports, or picnic area, nothing to write home about. But yesterday, we went to Chuck Brown Memorial Park. It’s like a mini-outdoor museum for the Godfather of Go-Go. They have a timeline and discography as well. In August, they do a celebration to remember the legend.

(bonus there’s another park sign across the street!)
If you do make it out to the Brookland area – go to Menomale for pizza or Marsala Story for Indian.March 13, 2020 at 12:32 pm #1105218matteblack

I agree 100%!! It has made FS2020 even more fun and exciting — kudos to camiller for coming up with this pointless prize idea!
If this is a pointless prize next year, I highly recommend those not playing along to participate, it’s gotten me out of the same ol’ route routine, allowed me to rediscover places I had long forgotten and made cycling in NoVA enjoyable again.
That being said, although my wife has been patient as I blow up her phone with Strava notifications that I’m out riding in the wilderness of suburbia looking for parks, I’m pretty sure she’s ready for it to be over. :p

lol indeed…we’d have to move to a warmer clime (where FS = Florida Saddles) to get her to ride over the winter!

Even that wouldn’t do it for my husband. Ok to be fair that’s not his obstacle…. He’s from Chicago. I’m the one who grew up in Puerto Rico. It turns out that waiting the winter out (or even biking LESS in winter as i used to before I found Freezing Saddles!) make me kinda depressed – whereas riding through it just kinda slows my pace and makes a lotta laundry (omg it’d be a load every 2 days if I stayed on top of it. [emoji2356])
Anyhow my efforts to interest my husband in freezing Saddles has only gotten him interested in the nerdier aspects of it. He actually sat down and did some math to show me that I was doing a good job supporting my team mileage when I pointed out that there are a couple of teams whose first 2 or THREE people are ahead of me on individual standings – and I’m 2nd on my team!
And last year he came up with a pointless prize. So…. [emoji1745] I’d be happy if I could get him to ride now, in the beautiful weather….

There are no swimming places nearby. Beach Park was named in honor of Miss Lillian Beach, the Principal of Maury School.March 15, 2020 at 1:21 pm #1105282matteblack
Participant@boomer: When a sign says “Residents Only / No Trespassing” I’m pretty sure that disqualifies it from being a “public” park. That’s the first rule in this game:
1. The park must be a national, state, regional, county or local community park that is open to the public at all times during the hours the park is open.
Since your posts are private, I’m only going by what’s on the Photos page; if you didn’t tag this as part of the game, I will withdraw this protest.

If you are referring to my “Success built upon Failure” ride https://strava.app.link/yb1kz1wdT4 then no, I did not tag “Fallsmead Park” for that very reason. I did however, tag the “Glenora Park” next store that did qualify (see below). I visited both parks on the same logged ride. But perhaps you refer to a different park or posted ride?
My post was an attempt to demonstrate both a failed and successful Park find. And to the best of my knowledge, my rides are not “private” or else FS2020 would not be able to sweep data nor pics from my Strava account. You should be able to see all of my rides in full if you look at the FS2020 club feed on Strava, FYI.
