ParticipantIf you’re feeling super bummed that about your standing on the QOT or KOT leaderboard, I have good news. I’ll be offering another DOUBLE POINT opportunity for anyone who participates in the Friends of the Mount Vernon Trails Martin Luther King Jr Day of Service trail cleanup. We’ll provide the gloves, bags and trash grabbers. You provide the tossing plastic into bags goodness.
Sign up for the event at https://www.eventbrite.com/e/mlk-day-of-service-mount-vernon-trail-cleanup-at-belle-haven-park-registration-53846408056
Here’s a few pics of the current state of the shoreline between Belle Haven Park and Old Town:

HF 7I’m gonna have to step up my game. Mr. Happy has the same number of points as I do and I’ll bet he wasn’t nearly as sore as I was yesterday!
Thanks for sponsoring the PP, Judd and a special thanks to superwoman, Josephine for making things happen! I’ll be out of town this weekend so I’ll have to miss your MLK cleanup day, but I’ll be close to the High Bridge trail. I’ll look for some solo opportunities there.

It would be really sad if a plastic man not wearing pants scored more points than you (or anyone else for that matter.)

Current KOT Standings:
Chris T 20Just to confirm — are you referring to me in that list as “Chris T”?
(Which is fine, if so – given my avatar name “Christob50″… though it is actually a concatenation of “Christopher” and my last name’s initial “B”. Suppose I should have capitalized the “B” when I first signed up…!)
If I end up remaining in town on MLK Monday, I’ll plan to drop by the trail event and see if I can score more points to ultimately donate!January 16, 2019 at 11:59 pm #1094281CBGanimal
ParticipantI was on my way to get some miles in while the sun was still warm when on my way down 4 mile run I ran into the 2 wooden bridges that were piled on with snow and ice! I cursed a few words under my breath…turned around went to Giant bought a hammer, a mop stick and a dust pan. Went straight to the longer of the two bridges and took all my furlough frustrations out on the ice and snow!
Before
AfterThen I hit the second smaller bridge

ParticipantLastly I hit the spot where 4 mile run takes an S curve near the 395 bridge…a small patch of ice right in the middle of the S almost took me out!

I saw that bridge take a cyclist out last night (low speed, some cursing but no injury), so I know your efforts will be much appreciated by everyone who rides this section!

Sent from my iPhone using TapatalkBless you!! I was debating on the (car) ride home tonight, if I should try and brave the 4 Mile Run trail Thursday morning as a bike commute to work… What glimpses of the trail I could see from the car were largely clear (on the asphalt sections) — but the wood bridges I could see were a mess, as is the Glebe bridge over the small creek — where the temporary sewer pipe takes up most of the sidewalk just before you turn right to join the asphalt again…
So I’m still on the fence whether I’ll try a bike commute tomorrow (it would be my first since the snowfall happened.) The memory of my crash/fall 12/21/18 looms large, and I’m not keen to experience another one anytime soon!!Also — as a general rant — as far as I can tell from recent crossings — there is no longer ANY piping running under that shorter temporary-installation wood bridge… hasn’t been for some time. I wonder why the county doesn’t remove it?

So that “glebe bridge over the small creek” is still very iffy…It needs shovel work! It’s passable by a narrow clearing very close to the curb…otherwise the rest of the trail to Eads is good…
Sorry to hear about your accident!

I’ll update you in the standings. Hope you’ll be able to make it out to the MLK Day cleanup. The KoT competition is anybody’s game right now.

Nice! Those bridges were sucky ice messes. Two points for each bridge for a random act of goodness and double points because shoveling ice sucks. An additional 2 points has been awarded for the use of non-conventional shoveling tools. 10 points!

I’ve experienced the same issue after a crash. I crashed this summer on a wet spot and hurt my knee pretty bad and I’ve felt fear ever since when I take a corner that’s wet. I hope you can make it out in the snow soon.

Two more points for a random act of trail goodness. More double points! Four points!
