I cleared the snow berms from the county plowing at 2 dangerous intersections along the W&OD between miles 7.0 and 8.0, before they freeze over tonight
The first one as at Virginia Lane.
The second one was at Shreve Road, near the Popular Heights tennis courts.
Sent from my VS501 using TapatalkVery nice! I grew up there (Avon Lane a few streets away) and went to Shrevewood Elementary, just out of frame to the left of your first photo.

ParticipantYesterday on the 4MRT under the train tracks this metal strapping material was just lying in wait to shred a tire. It ended up on the rear rack headed for my garage dustbin.

Small world! I’ve lived on Avon Lane since 1991, and my son went to Shrevewood Elementary School. Which house did you grow up in?

Now THAT is weird in the small world way…!
We lived in #2539, from the time I was about 7-1/2, through high school (Falls Church High, after Luther Jackson Intermediate.)February 22, 2019 at 11:52 pm #1095949ChristoB50
ParticipantBack in the saddle today, but only had 2 bags to grab on the way out the door this morning. Picked up where I’d left off Tuesday, continuing west on S. Glebe.
Managed to carry a big flap of soaked carpet padding as well.

I don’t quite understand why this Arlington County orange striped barrel was at this location, let alone in the middle of the Eads PBL. It got moved.
Two points for a random act of goodness. One additional point because every time I see your handlebars I silently say “Pew! Pew!” in my head. 3 points!

Cleaned up a bit of 4MR…looked slightly right next to the green tarp area…took 2 bags with me but found a third during clean up so I used it too!
In the middle of my job a “new to the area” cyclist asked if he could help…sure I say…he did 2 bags too from ones we found as we picked up trash…he asked about bike clubs/rides/activities…well I told him all about Freezing Saddles and Coffee Clubs…he said he’d see me around soon! Overall good day!Two points for a random trail cleanup. One point for magnifying your efforts by recruiting another cyclist and finding more bags. One more point for promoting coffee clubs, Freezing Saddles and the bike community. 4 points!

One additional point has been awarded because he gave me one of the oranges that he bought. I am easily bribable. 3 points!

Samantha gets 5 points for attending yoga at the Four Mile Run Farmer’s Market and 2 points for buying something yummy there. One additional point has been awarded because she managed to avoid karate chopping me in the throat when we were doing some arm sweep stuff during yoga. 8 points!

Continuing the Valentine’s Day weekend festival of trail love, after charging up with tasty bites at the farmers market this morning I went to revisit the section of Four Mile Run trail behind the construction fencing, (overlapping a bit with the stretch that CBGanimal did yesterday) continuing westward to the T-junction where the trail hits Glebe Road. Managed six bags full in that stretch! A goodly number of scratch off lottery tickets plus a full pair of blue jeans and a T-shirt, among the more unusual items. Creepy/gross moment; spotted yet another black grocery bag out of the corner of my eye, reached over to grab it and stopped just short when I saw it really was a large dead crow!
I took the bags home to dispose of, since our public trashcan along the trail there is now filled almost to overflowing!
Two points for a random act of reji-bagging. One additional point for filling up the entire trash can. This stretch of trail is looking pretty good. 3 points!

Jumped on the bring a bag to cleanup the trail phenomenon this morning. Gathered up three bags of trash at FMR intersection with the Richmond Highway Bridge. One of the bags I used was retrieved in my cleanup. Only picked up four straws, but lots of water bottles and beer cans. Interesting item picked up – remnants of a portable DVD player.

Two points for a random act of reji-bagging. One point for finding something that the kids these days won’t understand once existed. 3 points!

I submit Giraffey and my MVT adventure for points consideration:
http://bikearlingtonforum.com/showthread.php?14028-Calvinball-2019-Official-Thread/page30
Giraffey has never been on the MVT before. In addition to the introduction to the MVT for Giraffey, we cleaned up trash, learned about fire safety, AND even though it’s not worth points per the above guidance, we submit our call to attend the Alexandria and Parking Board meeting for consideration since not getting hit by drivers is important.(side note, it’s almost kinda funny this broken sign is littering the ground by where I found Giraffey. Cleaning it up is a job for someone stronger than me though)
5 points for taking Giraffey on a trail he’s never been on before. One additional point for the ironic litter caused by a sign asking people not to litter. One additional point for posting about the next Alexandria Traffic and Parking Board (there will be another thread about this). 7 points!

Not quite how I planned today in terms of keeping close in score. We got a later start on the ride home than anticipated, so were too late to be able to make it to and enjoy something at the farmer’s market. Instead, we stopped at the Learning Loop and snacked on some Girl Scout cookies I got yesterday near the now former Performance Bike location in Vienna. (And no, those gloves weren’t quite warm enough for today.)

Then, after having just missed meeting Giraffey (by about 10 minutes…or about how long we paused to have our snack
), rolled by what at quick and passing glance looked to be a nasty looking piece of metal in the Eads PBL. Circled back to clear it out the way and dispose of it properly; turned out to just be a plastic bolt so annoying litter but not the threat I thought it was.

Finally – managed to accomplish one useful thing (other than, you know, getting M home): moved a pair of scooters out of the way on the “interim ART” just west of the Wharf.

Two points for a solo act of removing a hazard from the Eads PBL. Two more points for removing poorly parked scooters from the interim ART. Two points for stopping to have yummy cookies at the Learners Loop. Negative one point for not biking down the street to drop some cookies off at my house. 5 points!

I had my two “reji bags” ready to go when I left this morning on Judd’s awesome President’s Day / George Washington group ride, in order to make another sweep along 4 Mile Run when riding home. I stopped again in the Mt Vernon Ave underpass – to – construction fence area, and while the pickings were thankfully slim compared to prior visits, I filled 2 more bags (working up into the triangle of grassy hill between the flood wall and the T-junction at S. Glebe.)
My 4 Mile Run Virtual Wardrobe is growing… joining the underwear, blue jeans, shirt and a kid’s light sweater from past cleanups, I added a “Sir Wellington’s” baseball cap and a right-handed glove today. I plan to make more reji quick-picks (that should be trademarked for reji!) on evening commutes home, westward from the T-junction at S. Glebe towards the W. Glebe bridge; lots of instant-gratification available along there! (Though boy, is it sad looking over the concrete flood wall at the state of the stream’s banks…!!)
Two points for a solo act of trail goodness. One additional point has been awarded because it made me laugh that you pulled over in the middle of the Presidents Day Ride to pick up two pieces of trash in the area you had cleaned previously. 3 points!

You can get 15 points for organizing a cleanup of the stuff over the flood wall. I’m sure Four Mile Run Conservatory would be happy to set up the eventbrite if you offer to lead the event. Alternatively, I’ve got 32 trash grabbers that I will happily lend to you (or anyone that wants to organize a cleanup.) Just sayin….

@reji, you’ve created a movement for me…!
4 bags tonight before the snow comes… from the T-junction of 4MRT and S. Glebe, west to the V-junction where the concrete sidewalk starts up.
In tonight’s haul, an almost entirely readable full Capital One credit card (expired), and a foray into several canned foods (emptied).
Had to ride further down to 395 underpass to find a trashcan.
Two points for a solo act of reji-bagging. One additional point because that stretch is looking good and has remained relatively trash free. 3 points!
