Winter riding often prompts terse thoughts about riding in the cold, wet, and wind. And because misery loves company (why else are we here?), I thought we could share our pithy thoughts in the form of a Haiku contest on the theme of Riding a Bike in Winter.

I know you can do better!

If you follow Komorebi on Strava, she frequently names her rides with haiku. She has a fan club.

Steve O and I are good with limericks, but I don’t think anyone cares. :p

Not true. The epic limerick battle that you and Steve O had last year inspired me to intersperse limericks among my haiku ride titles this year. In other words, there’s now some really bad poetry on Strava and it’s half your fault. :D

Every once in a while, I change up my rhyming scheme to incorporate a haiku.

    Often they still rhyme.
    I’m a terrible poet.
    But I’ve Strava game.

    A foggy morning,
    gentle rains begin to fall.
    Hope I packed spare socks.

I thought that our lim’rick battle
Was thought of as nothing but prattle
    But dkel and Steve O
    Received a big kudo
From a fan on a cold, freezing saddle!

As he sits around surfing the web, he
eats snack cakes made by Little Debbie
to give fuel to his brain
    ’cause it’s bringing him pain
to think nothing rhymes with Komorebi
