ParticipantNot sure if hot chocolate counts but I stopped by Cafe Chocolate near the White House. They sell chocolates but I believe only the hot chocolate is made in house. The hot chocolate is nice and thick like an Italian or Mexican hot chocolate. You have the choice of dark or milk but if you get the S’mores you get the dark hot chocolate topped with marshmallows. Very decadent!

If it was made “in-house,” it counts…especially if it came out “decadent!”

ParticipantI can’t win my own prize, but I can “verify” some of the great chocolatiers discovered through the efforts of others! So I followed up on Artisan Confection at the Mosaic District in Merrifield VA, off of Gallows Road and Lee Highway, discovered by @SaraBee. They have a small store, and even smaller inventory, but their chocolates are homemade, and the real deal… especially the “affogato”!! It’s not particularly bike-friendly, but I did convince the store clerk to let me bring my bike in, once I explained this competition…and promised to buy some chocolates!!

Participant** #FS2020chocolateuring Results **
And the winner is…according to the official leaderboard & evidence submitted above on this thread…
… is @BikeDavid, who outdistanced the competition by several chocolates!
Thanks to @HFW @sarah[emoji219] @reji @cathy @LauaR @glenn[emoji3581] and @bikesnick (even though he didn’t get credit on the leaderboard;-) for ferreting out the local chocolatiers!
I delivered the prize to @BikeDavid (see pic above) since we don’t know when the FS2020 awards happy hour will be held. In addition, I hope to sponsor a chocolateuring ride, to which you are all warmly invited, to the extra point challenge that no one seems to have figured out nor attempted, as soon as it is safe to do so (and hopefully the chocolatier will still be in business)
Ride on!

** UPDATE: Newer, simpler hashtag now in effect #chocolateuring **
Do you like chocolate? While out on a bike ride? If so, then this side bet is for you. The objective is to visit the most number of chocolatiers while riding a bicycle.
The rules are simple:
1. Ride your bike to any chocolatier for at least a sleaze ride (which I believe is now 10 miles for 2020 _(“,)_/ ? … see BAFS2020 Rule 1*)
2. Consume chocolate made on the premises of said location. Fine Print: The chocolate must be made at that location where consumed!
3. Take a picture of the chocolate with something bike-related at said location.
4. Post your ride, photo, tasting notes and the #chocolateuring hashtag on Strava, Instagram, Twitter and/or this thread.
6. Whomever posts entries from the most number of chocolatiers by the end of Freezing Saddles wins!
7. The winner will receive a bike ride w/ the sponsor to a chocolatier of the sponsor’s choice. This could include a trip to West Africa where I know several chocolate farmers.
Extraneous notes (because it’s FS after all:-)
– BE SAFE! No riding while under the influence. If you rode your bike to the chocolatier but find that you need to take a nap, get a ride home, or take Uber (help: uber phone number)/Metro back to whence you came, the entry still counts. I often pass out after eating chocolate.
– You can go to more than one chocolatier on a ride, but you will need to record and post each ride separately (i.e. restart your gizmo between rides)
– Some chocolatiers have more than one location. A trip to each location counts (but see previous rule). Once you visit a chocolatier and consume their chocolate, then you cannot post another entry from that location, even if you go back later and try a different chocolate treat.
– Extra points if you describe the where your chocolate comes from (source origin) and its social or environmental impact (did the chocolate farmer get a fair trade? Is the chocolate deforestation-free?). Ditto if you note the chocolatier’s bike friendliness (e.g. accessibility and parking).
– In case of a tie, the winner will be the freezing saddlest who visits the most chocolatiers and either takes me along or bribes me with chocolate gifts from said chocolatiers (or both)
– These rules are arbitrary and subject to change on the whim of the sponsor

Not sure it makes sense in these Covid-19 times, so I will not sponsor for the #BAFS2021 season
However the #smallbiz or #coffeesnobride contests are options for this season.
