    Cocoa Vienna
    – bike parking is pretty dismal, but you can bring bikes up onto the front porch
    – no info on the chocolate sourcing
    – I had the dark chocolate ganache & key lime truffle

Chocolateuring attempt #1 The Chocolate House

Today was a good day to attempt some chocolateuring with the snow. The Chocolate House can be a bit hard to find since it’s below street level so it’s easy to bike by. As it’s in Adams Morgan there are quite a few bike racks around including outside the shop. The shop sells chocolate from various chocolatiers. I got a mix of 4 consisting of Coconut Nibs, Honey, Manhattan, and Fleur de Sel from I think Capitol Hill, Zoe’s in Frederick, and Artisan Confections in Arlington. Particularly liked the Coconut Nibs and Fleur de Sel. I missed the fine print that the chocolate must be made at that location plus I forgot to consume on premise but at least now I know some stores to go to!41246bc81a51e77533719b3a080a7a95.jpg64c7cc09ca025cebda02b3c2c71b92ca.jpg

    Artisan Confections, Merrifield

Local chocolatier with actual production in their Arlington facility. Fair trade sourced cocoa with locally sourced other ingredients such as Maryland mint. They also have a decent assortment of VEGAN chocolate confections including bananas walnut, which was super yum! Bike parking was good although biking to Mosaic District in general kinda sucks.c316caa0faa988920b21fc20decdc382.jpg879375b99c81fe6d5811f3f6cd1df04e.jpg5babd9314bd793c8410b3b665c1217d0.jpga537981dd6d5e4f2236d6456fa902b5d.jpg

Chocolateuring #1: Chesapeake Chocolates in Reston

Easy to bike to and there are some bike racks by the parking lot entrance. They are also conveniently located next to Lake Anna Brew House because chocolate goes well with beer! I don’t associate the Chesapeake as far west as Reston but they are by Lake Anna so it’s sort of like being by the bay. And they have some sea themed chocolate including a crab and a starfish. I like that they have both a dark and a milk chocolate version for many if not all of their chocolates. They seem to do a lot of chocolate covered fruits and nuts. Got a few to try and liked the chocolate coated cherry.

Chocolateuring #2: Fleurir Chocolates in Alexandria

From my failed attempt earlier I found out about this place. Not really any bike racks around but lots of street signs to lock to. The designs are pretty and many of them have a floral pattern. Got a few to try. Particularly liked the Cardamon and the Grand Marnier.

Delicious truffles (dark chocolate/raspberry and milk chocolate/champagne), handmade on the premises.

    Chocolateuring #3: Artisan Confections

Stopped by Artisan Confections in Clarendon. They said they source their chocolate from France and I noticed in the display that there was a dark chocolate from Venezuela, not sure if that also came via France. They have lots of interesting chocolates including banana walnut, strawberry ginger, and a vanilla chai truffle all with a pretty pattern. Tried the Affogato which was delightful.3aacf61dbbfdef9a1dad5a0df7e4ad5f.jpg5e3ac421e3b3bf0145e291f9338c8e38.jpg

Extra credit for brilliant composition w/ the cranky chocolate placement and the address # in the doorway.!!

Another good find @bikedavid; you are killing this #PP!
I suspect that the source of the chocolate is from the Ivory Coast … the world’s leading producer … as chocolate doesn’t grow in France [emoji632]!:-0

    Chocolateuring #4: Harper Macaw

Harper Macaw recently opened up in Georgetown. It’s a nice little chocolate shop and cafe. When you walk in you can see the chocolate making equipment in the first room. I could hear some rumbling from the machine and there was a delightful smell of chocolate in the air. From what I could tell, they make chocolate bars rather than individual chocolate pieces or truffles. Tried some samples of their various dark chocolate and all were good. Particularly liked the raspberry cheesecake so picked one up to go.aadc7e3b48bcd05727e137ba86a0f896.jpgff3156f969764cd4ad8c445082a6ddcf.jpgb3b81732b67e188781049082f34785e6.jpg
