ParticipantYou made the right choice. Italian Store is good NY style pizza. Pupatella is good Neopolitan style pizza. Lost Dog pizza might be useful as an emergency wheel for my wife’s recumbent trike, but has little merit as food.
I would like to join this event – it would have to be a last minute decision, though, since I have a complex meeting schedule that day and I won’t know when I’ll be done until I’m done.

Walk ups are just fine. See you there!

ParticipantOh, this sounds like fun and I need to find dinner that night anyway. If all goes well I’ll meet you at Clarendon but, like accordioneur, it will be a bit of a game time decision.

ParticipantThere really isn’t any competition. Pupatella is a far superior product. Though I would probably put Lost Dog in the same league as It Store, weighted by their greater diversity and imagination. It is nice to live a block from both of those options, for sure.
Regardless, the ride sounds fun!

ParticipantOh, you lucky people! This is one of the series of Community Rides that WABA puts on in partnership with local partners like BikeArlington.
Turns out I am one of the WABA instructors assigned to this ride, so you’d better behave. Not only do I get to ride my bike and eat some great pizza, but I GET PAID to do it. Sweeeeeeeettt!!!
This would be an excellent ride to invite your friends along who are not everyday riders or are curious about riding more.May 9, 2016 at 11:59 pm #1051803consularrider

ParticipantWe walked to Westover for dinner at Lost Dog last night (because, Puppies! and beer!). Have to say, I thought they did a fine job with the pizza. Went well with a 3 Stars Ebony & Ivory Imperial Brown Ale, quite nutty and yummy. The last time I was at Pupatella, the crust was a little soft and disappointing, though I love the place nonetheless.
So let the pizza provocation continue, now I have a baseline for comparison. I’ll try to join tomorrow also, as a walk-up. May there be a break in the rain.

ParticipantOh, this sounds fun!
I am also one of those “game time decision” folks, since my Wednesday evenings are hit or miss due to work obligations.

ParticipantWhich Italian Store?
I know everyone raves about Pupatella but we’ve liked Italian Store pizza better than Pupatella. Of course, I could have been made cranky by the crowd at Pupatella.
Fun reason for a ride nonetheless.

ParticipantWhy is there a pay-ahead reservation fee but free for ride-day walk-ups? The pricing seems to discourage pre-registration. A lot of events (e.g., DC Bike Ride) have escalating prices to encourage early registration.

On this ride series, spaces are capped and there may be an occasion when a walk-up would be turned away. (Tomorrow seems like there should be plenty of space, so don’t sweat it)
The point of the ride isn’t to make money. The 10 dollar fee also deters people from just signing up well in advance and deciding not to come. We’ve found that a small fee makes people feel like they have some skin in the game.
If you don’t want to spend the $10 and do a walk up that’s fine…but the money does go to help allow WABA put on this type of programming in the future. (guilt trip)
