I have a standard rear rack, and I’ve used bungee cords to strap down things like a tent to the top of it before. That may work but I’m also really scared of being the guy who just spent $20 on a great pizza, have it spill all over the road
I’ve done that before, but only for about two miles.
could also be a good opportunity to practice riding with no hands.March 12, 2013 at 4:51 pm #964388jabberwocky

Now that would be the perfect gift for the cyclist that has everything.

ParticipantYeah, but even if you secure the box sufficiently to your bike you’re still gonna have a pizza that is “slip sliding and away” inside the box as you go up and down hills, over bumps, etc. Plus it’ll get cold by the time you get home at that distance I would think. On the other hand, I think NYC has pizza delivery guys using e-bikes.

ParticipantI’ve thought of getting a front rack and one of those insulated pizza carriers for the express purpose of bringing home pizza. The slip sliding around is something I haven’t considered though.

ParticipantI’ve asked Ledos to put them into the smaller boxes before and they obliged.

Ledo’s works because it’s square pizza. It would be difficult to make a circle pizza fit into a smaller box. Maybe a trigonometrical mathematician could figure that out.

I think the bumps would be the biggest problem, so maybe carrying several extra plastic tripod thingies would help keep it in place. Next time we get pizza I think I’m going to experiment using the empty box first, then move up to actual food to see what happens.
PS – I’m really bad at riding no handed. If I tried, me, the bike and the pizza would be crashed in a ditch 20 yards down the trail.

ParticipantPeople used pizza to deliver bikes in NYC all the time. I think if you stay on the roads in ARL, you’ll minimize bumps and, depending on where you’re going, hills. E.g. you could take Custis to the Italian Store, then Lee to Quincy (or to Monroe and neighborhood streets to Quincy) to Fairfax and West.
(yeah, I caught that, but thought it was too funny to fix)
