Is there a way to get to the MVT from the Long Bridge Drive side of 395, or do you have to go NW up and around the marina?
You’ve got to take Boundary Channel Drive and head under 395 and around the marina. The alternative would be cutting over to the MVT from Crystal City, around 18th Street (?)

ParticipantYou can take Long Bridge Drive to Boundary Channel and then across the wooden bridge to the park by the marina, and then out the northern tunnel under the Humpback Bridge. Or, you can off-road in the grass by the ramp from 395 to Boundary Channel as soon as you cross under 395, and that leads to the dead-end trail to the southern tunnel under the Humpback Bridge. I did that once by accident (trying to find out where that southern tunnel went to), but there’s not much point in that if you’re actually trying to increase mileage.

ParticipantKel,
A much easier way to increase your distance is to make a loop or two at Hains Point (is it 2.75 miles each loop?)
As you’re coming into town, just take a left on the sidewalk at the DC end of the 14th St. Bridge (George Mason Memorial Bridge for you sticklers out there) and keep following it around to the left.
See the Arlington Bike map for details. It’s very easy to get right back onto the route to work. I do a loop or two or three from time to time on my way home. It’s a pleasant ride.

3.19 miles, give or take a few feet. I’ve spent some time there.

ParticipantAs one who commutes from Crystal City to L’Enfant, I have headed up Four Mile Run to Shirlington, then the W&OD to the Custis, Custis to the Mount Vernon Trail at Roosevelt Island then down to the 14th St Bridge. Adds about 10.5 miles to the route. There is only so much of Hains Point I can stand.

What color is the King of Hains Point (KOHP) jersey? Blue and white with a BA logo?

Oh, that’s a great idea
As a lapsed runner, I usually try to block the existence of Hains Point out of my mind. (It’s SO BORING to run on. SOOOOO BORING.)

It is just as boring when cycling, just boring for less time!

ParticipantI was thinking about this thread earlier as I was walking to lunch…
(IMPORTANT DISCOVERY: There is a CaBi station by the Penn Quarter Five Guys. There is probably some Important Historical Washington Stuff over there too, but whatev. French fries.)
… and it nicely illustrates the importance of explaining why one is asking a question.
Had I only asked how to get from the Pentagon to the 14th St Bridge and not mentioned why I wanted to know, then I would not have gotten the information I really needed.
This has been a public service announcement. (With guitar.)

There’s not even a creepy nightmare-inducing statue to look at as a reward when you get to the end anymore!
